“You looked?” I squealed, his turquoise orbs growing brighter. “And your eyes…”

He smirked. “I always look.”

I folded my arms, about to huff, “You what!” when his entire body shimmered with gold.

“It’s everywhere.” I pointed to his arm and then his face. I considered lifting his blue shirt to see if it covered his stomach, too.

“Does it frighten you?” he asked, in the same nervous tone as earlier.

“Why would I be frightened? I like it.” I couldn’t stop myself from caressing his arm. The texture was smooth but fuzzy, like static energy coated his skin.

He twitched and clutched my hands. “We should go,” he said, his voice suddenly husky.

My Caiden Versus Prince Caiden

Caiden led me to the center of my bedroom. “Close your eyes.”

“Why?” I tensed.

“So we can leave. Our kind has the ability to travel differently than humans. It’s an easier experience if your eyes are closed.”

My stomach knotted. “Easier for you or me?”

“Lily, relax.” His eyes danced around my face and he seemed far too eager.

“Why do we have to go to the realm to do this? Couldn’t we practice here?”

“Well, the person I need you to heal is at the manor.”

“Manor?”

“The Realm of Life isn’t a world as much as a place. Think of a glorious manor house with lush gardens.”

“Wow. That’s unexpected and a lot less scary.”

“There is nothing scary about the Realm of Life. It’s beautiful, and it’s the best place for you to conjure your powers given it’s filled with magical energy.”

Magical energy.I gulped, already feeling like I didn’t belong. “I hope I don’t disappoint you.”

“Impossible.” He tilted his head toward mine. “You’ll be fine, I promise.” His sweet breath tickled my nose, easing my tension. “Now, close your eyes and don’t open them until I say so.”

I did as he instructed and imagined Caiden planting a soft kiss on my lips as a distraction for what was about to happen.

Wind whirled around the room, interrupting my fantasy. My hair fluttered about my face, tickling my cheeks. With Caiden holding my hands, I couldn’t brush it away. I wanted to peek and see what was happening, but instead, I squeezed my eyes tighter.

The breeze blew stronger, smelling of lavender, roses, and gardenias. Then static built at my fingertips. My breath caught and my stomach dropped, as if I were falling.

Fearing I was, I squeezed Caiden’s hands. Next, I felt lifted and as light as a cloud floating through the sky. Just as I began to breathe normally, the static prickling my skin intensified, turning hot. I wanted to rip my hands from Caiden’s grasp. But what if I fell? It still felt like we floated in the air and for all I knew, we did.

Struggling to keep my hands with his, I tried to trick my mind. I pictured snow covering my skin, cooling it and numbing the pain. It had just begun to work when my feet touched something solid. Was it over?

“Open your eyes,” Caiden whispered close to my face. Here, his breath smelled like cotton candy. How deliciously odd.

Inhaling, I leaned forward and accidentally bumped his nose with mine.

“Sorry.” I giggled and opened my eyes to a smiling face that wasn’t Caiden’s.
