I closed my eyes and concentrated.
“Lily? Do you have any idea how beautiful you are like this? Natural, naked, flushed with pleasure. I am the luckiest sentry alive.”
I grinned with a rush of warmth at his words and smacked his arm. “I can’t listen to your thoughts if you’re talking.”
“I wasn’t talking,” he said, and his voice sounded stronger than it had a moment ago.
I opened my eyes. “That was your thoughts?”
He nodded and kissed my lips. “See what a fast learner you are?” He kissed my neck and collarbone. “Do you think you’re ready for round two?”
I moaned as tiny kisses spread throughout my body. My skin shimmered with dusted silver.
Caiden smirked. “I’ll take that as a yes.”
“Yes,” I breathed and once again gave myself to the person I loved and would love for eternity.
EPILOGUE
DREAMS AND WISHES COME TRUE
Raysa and I stood on the far side of the lake at the back of the manor.
“Reveal.” She waved a hand and a stone gazebo appeared.
Six pillars bordered the white structure, which had a domed ceiling. In the center stood a statue of an angel with brilliant wings. White light, glimmering with silver flecks, shot like a beam from the angel to the sky.
“This is the portal of life,” Raysa said, “where new souls from Heaven travel to Earth before uniting with a human form.”
“It’s beautiful.” Magical or perhaps heavenly was a better description. “Caiden talked about the portal in the Realm of Life, but he never described what it looked like, just how it worked—like a funnel or a wormhole between realms. Once he described it as a giant mythical slide.”
Raysa laughed. “I can’t speak from experience so I wouldn’t know but a slide sounds fun.”
“Do you care for it?” I had no idea what I was asking. It wasn’t a fish in a bowl.
“We monitor it, but the portal is self-sufficient. It’s not our place to interfere.”
“Only to maintain the balance.” I smirked.
Raysa beamed at me with pride. “That’s correct. Now that you officially belong to our realm, the responsibility falls to you, too.”
I nodded, happy to be a part of something again. Without Dad and the nursery to look after, I worried I’d feel useless.
“Oh.” Raysa clapped her hands together. “Your healing quarters are almost done. You should stop by and make sure the room has everything you need.”
“Of course. I’m excited to see it finished.” As the only nature goddess with healing powers, I’d been given an additional duty and office, although office might be a stretch. When it was complete, it would look like an indoor garden-slash-spa. Sentries only got hurt when they went to war, got into a fight protecting the realm, or had a run-in with a volatile Death Sentry. Mostly, I’d be using the space to enhance and grow my healing powers.
Caiden didn’t want me using my blood to heal anymore. He thought it was too sacred and unnecessary now that my powers were blooming.
Joining the Realm of Life and living among the magic here seemed to supercharge me. Every day I grew stronger.
What do you think? Caiden’s voice sounded in my head.
My heart leapt. He was back. I spun to search the grounds for him.
Following the edge of the lake, Caiden walked toward us, his gold skin and hair glistening in the sun. His glowing turquoise eyes locked with mine.
Hello, beautiful, he said in my head again.
