“Yes.”

I study him, looking for something I might have missed: spilled blood, a rip in his clothes, fake wounds like he’s a zombie. Other than his pale face matching the white cream I painted on mine, nothing gives his costume away.

“You’re a vampire,” Nathan blurts.

A smile parts Azure’s naturally red lips.

“He guessed it?” No way.

Azure nods.

“That’s it?” I ask, still skeptical. “A vampire?”

“Not just any vampire.” He pulls a white lab coat from his backpack and puts it on.

I half snort, half laugh. “Oh my gosh. That’s perfect.”

“I knew you’d like it.”

“What am I missing?” Nathan glances back at Azure with confusion. “He’s a doctor vampire?”

“He’s Carlisle Cullen.”

“Who?”

Azure and I crack up.

“IF ONE MORE guy stares at Kensington’s ass, I swear I’m going to lose it.” I shove my hands into my pockets to hide my tightening fists. If only I could put my hand on her back or around her waist, so everyone here knows she’s taken. But I can’t. Because she’s not taken, and I’m trying my hardest to show her I can respect her wishes.

So far, I’ve done a helluva job. Kensi has laughed, squealed, and screamed more than I’ve heard her do in days.

Even I had fun getting lost in the corn maze while we tried to figure a way out. Kensi took the lead. Azure and I let her. The guy is a great friend to Kensi. I’m happy she found him. He’s cool, in a low-key way, and smart as fuck. Kensi was bragging about his major and the many languages he speaks.

“That’s impressive,”I said.“If you can’t find what you’re looking for as a translator, I would love to hire you to work for the security firm. We could use a multi-linguist to help expand the branches further into Europe, among other things.”Some of our business clients in the US are global companies. Having an employee who can communicate fluently with international CEOs would be beneficial.

I’ll have to talk to Dad about the possible expansion of more branches into Europe, but with the new London office, I don’t see him opposing the idea.

Azure appreciated the offer and said he’d definitely keep us in mind. Kensilovedthe offer and sent me an adoring grin I hadn’t seen since before I left town.

We’ve only just escaped the corn maze, thanks to Azure, when he gets a text.

“My mom needs some help at the caramel apples stand. I’m going to head over. Would you like to meet her?” he asks us.

“Yes.” Kensi clutches her hands with a clap. “It’s one of the reasons why I came.”

We tried to meet her when we first arrived, but she was busy making sure the event got off without a hitch.

We head toward the entrance, where a farmer’s store sells corn, jams, pumpkin butter, and other fresh produce. Being out here, I don’t feel like I’m in Florida. It’s a nice change of scenery. We pass picnic tables filled with people munching on corndogs, pizza, popcorn, and cotton candy. I inhale the carnival scents and consider getting something for myself.

“Are you hungry, Kensi?” I ask, walking beside her.

“I was thinking of getting a caramel apple.”

“I’ll get you one on the house,” Azure says.
