Thesickening smackof knuckles meeting fleshsplits the air.Logan jerks back, head snapping to the side. The chips fall to the floor as he presses an open palm against the wall to catch his balance.

“Whythe fuckwould I want to go anywhere with you, you lying piece of shit?!” Ryan doesn’t lower his fists.

I try stepping forward, but Logan damn near clotheslines me to prevent me from getting close to the angry guy.

“I deserved that.” Logan’s fingers press against the quickly forming bruise on his eye. “But that’s your only free shot.”

My brother scoffs. “You think I’m scared of you?”

“I didn’t say Iwantedto hit you,” Logan clarifies. “But Iwilltake you down to the ground if I need to.”

“I’d like to see you try,” Ryan sneers.

“What the hell is wrong with you?!” I yell, stretching to the side behind Logan’s back.

Ryan’s furious gaze snaps to me. “I think you knowexactlywhat’s wrong with me, Rosa. What the fuck were you thinking?”

“Leave her out of this.” Logan looks to me out of the corner of his eye. “Rosie, why don’t you go?—”

I dump my pantry haul on the kitchen island. “Save your breath. I’m not going anywhere while this jackass is behaving like this.”

“Oh, that’s rich.” Ry shakes out his fists. “Take a look in a mirror, Rosa. Your judgment clearly hasn’t been the best lately.”

Oh, no he didn’t.

Logan predicts my lunge and grabs me around the waist to stop it. “Settle down, Rosie. I am not letting you get hurt in the crossfire.” He turns to Ryan. “Leave her out of this. If you’re pissed, you take it out onme.”

My brother still looks like he’s ready to throw down, so I’m smart enough to withdraw. I don’t feel like getting accidentally clocked in the face if these two start going at it again.

“Asshole,” I mutter, leaning back against the counter, crossing my arms with a huff. “That was for you, Ryan, in case it wasn’t clear.”

He flips me off, so I return the gesture with both hands.

“How long?” Ryan seethes. “How longhave you been fucking my sister behind my back?!”

Logan lifts his chin. “We’ve beentogethera little over a month.”

Confused chatter erupts from the family members now spilling into the house. My mom and dad push their way to the front, both looking equally concerned and exasperated.

“Boys, what’s going on?” my dad asks, his deep voice cutting through the noise.

Ryan doesn’t take his eyes off Logan. “Didn’t you know, Dad? Apparently, Logan’s decided Rosa is his new plaything.”

A collective gasp.

My dad’s mouth falls open, as if he’s shocked by his son’s audacity.

Join the club, Pops.

Sylvie, standing behind my parents, grumbles, “Oh, hell no. Lemme at him.” There’s a bit of a tussle as Hudson holds her back, whispering in her ear.

Logan stiffens. “That’s not fair, Ry, and that’s certainly not true.”

“Really?” Ryan scoffs. “Okay, Mr.-I-Invented-A-Hookup-App.”

Logan’s jaw tightens. “That has nothing to do with this. And good to know you’ve been judging me this whole time for it.”

“That was a cheap shot, Ryan,” I seethe. “And you are innoposition to judge Logan on anything!”
