Monday. Ugh.

There I was, a hot guy between my legs, licking his lips as he toyed with the top of my jeans, all while my best friend, and also a hot guy, was making sure I was okay after being humiliated.

“I’m fi—” Zach opened the button on my jeans. “Fine. I’m fine.”

“Are you sure? You sound winded.”

“Do I? You know, I did just get in from a run.” The zipper went down, but I didn’t stop him, only playfully glared. The bastard responded with an innocent smile and shrug.

“Okay. Well, do you want me to call back tomorrow?”

“Yeah, that’d be great! Bye, Seth.”

“Bye, Les.” A little quieter, Seth added, “I really miss you.” And suddenly, I was dryer than the Sahara Desert.

“I miss you too.” I glanced at the movie still playing. “Love you.”

“Love you.” Seth ended the call, and I set my phone back on the table.

Looking at Zach, I sighed and rested back on my elbows.

“So, this isn’t happening tonight, huh?” Zach said with a little chuckle.

“Sorry. There’s nothing like your best friend missing you to be the ultimate cock-block, clam jam, boner killer.”

Zach laughed. “You’re something else, Sunshine. We’ll rain check for another time.”

He zipped up my fly and buttoned my jeans, placing a small kiss right under my belly button. Warmth spread through my chest at the sweet gesture, and something clicked into place.

He put his shirt on as he stood. “I should probably get out of your hair. It’s getting pretty late.”

I pulled my shirt down as we walked to the door. “Yeah. I had a good time tonight, Zach. I hope we can hang out again.”

“I’ll be here all week making you dinner, remember? Plenty of time to destroy your phone and find a distraction-free space.”

“You got it.” My cheeks hurt from smiling, but it didn’t stop me from beaming at him. “Get home safe!” A car pulled up, and I watched as he got in his ride.

“See you Monday.”

I waved and went back into the house. After locking up and turning out all the lights, I went to bed.

Laying in the darkness, my thoughts bounced between how easy things were with Zach, how quickly my switch flipped when Seth told me he missed me, and finally, how I had gone a whole night without thinking about Aiden. More confused than ever, I smooshed my face into the pillow until my body gave into the sweet booze, and I passed out.

Sarah woke me up by setting a tall glass of water and a few ibuprofen on my side table. “Hey, champ. I see you’re alone this morning?” She plopped down on the edge of the bed, smiling and waggling her eyebrows, just being all-around annoying.

Scowling, I slowly rolled to sit. “Yeah. Sorry to disappoint.” I tossed the pills in my mouth and chugged the glass of water. The cool liquid made my mouth and throat feel a million times better.

“What happened? You guys seemed to hit it off.”

Classic Sarah—always bang first, ask questions later. I admired her freedom-loving lifestyle, but at this point, I didn’t need anyone telling me what to do. Did I need to get laid? Absolutely. Should it be with a coworker? Probably not. Right now, any guy would just be a rebound. My heart was so smashed up that I couldn’t risk someone grinding it down to powder.

Add to that the fact Zach was Michael’s roommate. Did Sarah really want that potential mess in her life?

“We did. We just stopped before things went too far.”

Sarah gave me a sad smile and asked, “What happened?”
