“More tummy trouble?” Razor asked, gesturing for them to walk with him to an exam room.
“It’s not that bad,” Caroline protested.
Razor stopped at the restroom. “I want you to take one of those cups on the shelf and follow the directions on the wall to give me a urine sample.”
“I’m not having any discomfort…. You know. Peeing. I’m going a lot. My stomach does hurt a bit,” Caroline assured him.
“I’m going to check two things, Little girl. Pregnancy and bladder infection.”
“I’m not….”
“Before you tell me you’re not pregnant, pee in the cup, Caroline.” Razor pinned her in place with the stern look Little girls seemed to need before they followed directions.
Wraith simply pointed into the bathroom when she whirled around to glance at him. “I’ll come help.”
“I can do it!” Caroline said. Her cheeks instantly flashed pink as she turned to follow his request.
“Come to exam room two when you’re finished. Leave the cup in the window, Caroline,” Razor told her before the door slammed shut.
Wraith leaned against the wall. Razor nodded and entered the exam room to wait for his patient to join him. He took a minute to run through her file, checking for anything that could provide some clues. Nothing stood out to concern him.
“I don’t know why I had to do that,” Caroline protested in the hallway.
“Razor’s the doctor, Little girl. As long as he’s aware of why you gave a sample, that’s all that matters. Are you going to be good or should I take you to an empty room and adjust your attitude?”
“I’ll be good,” Caroline promised.
Razor noted Wraith still had to tug her into the exam room. “Okay, Caroline. You know the drill. Take everything off and put on the gown. I’ll go run the tests before examining you.”
“I don’t really need an exam,” she said quickly.
“You’re here, Little girl. Your Daddy is worried. How about if I check a few things and see if there’s an easy solution?” Razor suggested.
Caroline glanced back and forth between the two men. Finally, she agreed. “Okay.”
“Good girl,” Wraith said and pulled Caroline to his side to hug her.
Razor excused himself and walked to his small lab. He didn’t perform many tests there on-site but sent most specimens to a private lab for processing. Thankfully, both the pregnancy and urine tests were simple to run. In a few minutes, he had answers.
Stepping back into the exam room, he found Caroline sitting on the exam table with Wraith by her side. Her clothes were folded carefully on the chair, with her bra and panties tucked out of sight. Most women hid their underwear from their doctors, while men simply tossed everything into a pile. The psychologist inside him always noted small things about his patients. Often, those details came in handy.
“You’re not pregnant,” he announced. Disappointment flashed on both of their faces. “Are you trying to have a baby?”
Caroline shook her head. “No. We use the birth control you prescribed. When you suggested that, it made me think….”
“It made us both imagine how adorable a baby Caroline would be.” Wraith took over for her when she hesitated.
“Or a bruiser baby Wraith,” Caroline rushed to add with a smile.
“When you decide to work on making a baby, there are better ways to stop birth control pills. I’ll be glad to recommend some supplements to take to help a new life be as healthy as possible from the beginning,” Razor shared.
The couple exchanged glances. Their statements alone told him that each had already considered growing their family. They would make excellent parents when they decided it was time.
“Thanks, Razor. We’ll let you know,” Wraith assured him before asking, “And the other thing?”
“Positive. You’ve got a bladder infection, Caroline.”
“What? How? I drink lots of water,” she protested.
