Several long seconds followed. Razor itched to get away from this cursed place but wouldn’t leave a brother behind. Finally, Razor spotted movement in the doorway. The smoke made it impossible to see clearly. A flash of black and green appeared first. It took a minute to spot that the man wasn’t wearing a Devil Daddies cut. Hellcat lifted his gun. A body fell heavily to the ground.
“Go, go, go,” yelled a familiar voice, and finally, they recognized Vex’s distinctive dark red hair.
Vex ran to his bike, lowering the woman he carried over his shoulder. He placed her on his bike before jumping on behind her and wrapping his arms around the petite figure. “We’re set.”
“Vex is going slow,” he shouted to Wraith.
“Hellcat! Fall behind and defend Vex until we get back to the compound,” Wraith yelled.
Immediately, Hellcat took the rear position.
Razor frequently checked on everything behind him. He wrestled with the anxiety filling him. He couldn’t go back there. Thankfully, he couldn’t see anyone following them.
Searching for a distraction, Razor focused on the couple slowing them down. Vex struggled to balance his passenger and drive his bike. Razor couldn’t determine if the woman fought him or couldn’t sit up by herself. His concern grew as they approached Inferno.
A roar of other bikes sounded from the left. After Wraith waved his hand in a circle over his head to order everyone to speed up, he triggered something on his watch. Razor tightened his hold around the powerful biker in front of him in preparation. All the bikes jerked forward as the Devil Daddies raced for refuge at the MC’s stronghold.
Vex increased his pace, drawing near Fury as Hellcat continued to guard from the rear. The other bikes appeared behind them. A flash caught his gaze a second before Razor heard the shot.
“Gun!” he yelled.
The Devil Daddies zigzagged their bikes from side to side on the road, presenting a weaving target that would be harder to hit. Razor faced the front. Are we almost there? Yes! The traffic light where they’d turn to Inferno glowed green ahead of them.
“Hang on,” Wraith told him, and Razor looked back at the now yellow light. “We’re not stopping.”
The light switched to red. The cars on the road created a roadblock in front of them. Wraith steered his bike through the gap between the lanes, driving on the dotted line. The others followed his example but spread out.
One pissed-off driver pulled into the space in front of them to stop Wraith. Razor heard a gun fire, and a gust of air sped past his arm. He turned his head to follow the bullet’s path. A second later, the window of the car blocking their path exploded. That jerk hit the gas immediately and launched himself back to the left, banging into the car in front of him. Avoiding him, Wraith steered between two cars and continued toward the intersection.
Wraith didn’t slow as they got to the red light. He turned in front of a young woman, causing her to screech to a stop. The others trailed closely behind. The neon Inferno sign blazed red in front of them. A slew of Devil Daddies on their bikes waited inside the entrance. As Hellcat passed, they swarmed onto the road, snarling traffic and closing the road.
The Ravagers halted a block away. They would have to go through the defensive line of the Devil Daddies to get to the smaller group. Razor watched to see what would happen, holding his breath. As they entered a curve that would take them out of sight, the Ravager in the lead steered his bike to the side.
“Fuck! I can’t see anymore. I think they’re retreating,” Razor shouted to Wraith.
“They’re done,” Wraith called back.
“Done chasing us?” Razor asked to clarify.
“Done existing.”
Razor wouldn’t argue against that outcome. The Ravagers had threatened his Little girl. He would welcome the opportunity to do harm. Fuck my Hippocratic Oath.
As Wraith drove them to the compound, Razor scanned the road ahead. He forced himself to exhale when he realized he held his breath. He and Honey were safe. Revenge on the Ravagers would wait until another day. Finally, they reached the gate to the compound.
They paused briefly for Toxin to clear the group and raise the gate. Wraith glanced over his shoulder to meet Razor’s gaze. “Lucien needed to verify they had you. Now that you’re safe, the war against the Ravagers will start. He’ll run them out of town—one way or another.”
Razor nodded. He didn’t enjoy violence, but some people only heeded a bigger bully. The Ravagers wouldn’t relent unless they were eliminated.
“Let’s get you to Honey,” Wraith suggested and roared through the gate.
“She’s here?”
“Scythe brought her to your cabin to be safe.”
The tension that had built inside Razor over his time in captivity eased from his tight muscles. He’d always believed that the Devil Daddies would rescue him or he’d manage to escape, but actually being safe in the compound seemed dreamlike. After pinching his arm to make sure he was awake, Razor strained to sit taller than the massive man in front of him.
He spotted Honey standing in the middle of the driveway. A rush of emotions he’d bottled inside flooded his mind. Wraith had said Scythe returned her. Had he forced her or was she here because she wanted to be with him? He held his breath, waiting to see her reaction. Honey waved both arms over her head as soon as she saw him and rushed the bike when Wraith pulled into Razor’s driveway.
