Fury pointed a finger to the faint white dust collecting at the bottom seam. “Fuck! I can see it. How did you know, Razor?”

“I didn’t. Anticipating the worst is always a good idea. I don’t think it’s smart to stick around here now. Whatever they doctored the note with wasn’t designed to welcome us,” Razor said. “They may be somewhere watching.”

In a few minutes, the men retraced their steps, heading back to the warehouse. Razor would secure the letter in his office. Lucien would want test results determining exactly what the substance was.

By the time he had the bag locked away in an isolated spot, Dead Eye and Pirate drove up in separate vehicles. As they approached, Razor noted their body language. They had seen nothing.

“No visitors?” he asked.

“I was in place before sunset, and Pirate got settled about an hour later,” Dead Eye stated. “No one stepped foot into that clearing.”

“I guess I need to go talk to Lucien,” Razor told the group. A scuff of a heel on the concrete made everyone spin to address a potential threat. Lucien emerged into the light.

“I’m here, Razor. What happened?”

“The Ravagers left a note for us instead of showing up,” Fury growled. “And that message…. Poisoned.”

“It could be baby powder for all we know,” Razor said quickly.

“Yeah, they have a chafing problem,” Dead Eye said, drawing the word out.

“What did the note say?” Lucien demanded.

“I took a picture. Let me send it,” Razor suggested. Quickly, he forwarded it to everyone in the small group.

“He’s really going to be sorry Razor is on our side,” Fury said.

“I’m not shocked Viper can’t be trusted,” Lucien commented dryly. “Why do you think I sent Razor in the first place? He’s already thought through the situation.”

The gathering considered that. After a brief hesitation, they nodded.

“All that brainpower,” Wraith suggested.

Razor shrugged. He’d always had the ability to anticipate what people would choose to do. Sometimes they surprised him.

“I won’t respond tonight. If that substance is anything dangerous, I’m sure they’re watching to see if they got someone. I’ll send out an alert to everyone in Inferno to be alert. Wraith, check in with the guys at the door. They know our customers best.”

“On it,” Wraith said and moved away.

Lucien brushed Razor’s arm as the others faded away, silently signaling him to stay behind. “You just put a target on yourself.”

“You think they had eyes on us?” Razor asked.

“I have no doubt cameras were set up in that area.”

“And you suspect they’ll come after me?”

“Possibly. Keep your guard up.”

Razor nodded, his thoughts jumping to Honey. He definitely didn’t want to drag her into anything dangerous.

“Your Little girl is already under our protection,” Lucien said, reading his mind.

“She’s got special challenges,” Razor shared.

“You’ve got unique talents. I’m glad you found her.”

“Me too.”
