“Lincoln?”

“Let’s get this taken care of, then we can talk.” He puts both weapons into a big, thick clear zippered plastic bag and zips it shut.

“This? This?”

“Hang tight, babe.”

Ticked is not a strong enough word. Pissed? Furious? I can’t even articulate how angry I am right now, also how concerned, because Tyson, Joel, Mase, and Linc are going to shoot him with a taser? Stun him? Then what?

“Do not fucking hurt him!” I demand.

Warmth and light hits Linc’s eyes just briefly before he nods and shifts, then jumps in the water with the bag of weapons in his mouth.

What the fuck is his plan?

Tyson, Joel, and Mase are all treading, waiting for Linc. Jared’s wolf is growling, ears pinned, hackles up, baring those terrifying teeth at them, daring them to come closer.

Most shifters would either flee or cower with the knowledge four super alphas are coming for him, but Jared’s wolf isn’t intimidated. In fact, he looks ready to take them all on. Saliva drips excessively, like he can’t wait to sink his teeth into them. It’s terrifying.

Fear grips me because Linc catches up and now they’re fanning out. Tyson and Mase are out front, Linc behind them, dropping the weapons.

Joel shifts back to human form behind Linc and panic in me overflows as I watch Joel stealthily move in. My blood thunders in my ears, and now I’m shifting, followed immediately by barking.

Jared’s wolf halts and tilts his head, eyes on my wolf. Now he’s sniffing the air. The other guys move in and surround Jared’s wolf as Joel picks up the bag of weapons, taking advantage of the diverted attention. Their proximity must snap his attention back to them, because I’m quickly forgotten and he’s now acting even more like a rabid hellhound.

The council members’ wolves are generally close to twice the size of male beta shifters, around twenty percent larger than typical alphas, but Jared’s wolf isn’t much different in stature than these guys.

Jaws snap emitting loud growls, snarls, and there’s barking with ears pinned back and teeth bared. Jared’s wolf isn’t remotely intimidated by being surrounded by larger wolves. He’s also no longer interested in my wolf or the non-stop barking coming from me.

I give it up and shift back in time to see Jared’s wolf’s teeth clamp around Tyson’s wolf’s throat. My heart drops.

“No!” I shout.

Mase’s white wolf’s teeth clamp down on Jared’s wolf’s back, making Jared’s wolf release the black wolf’s throat, but Jared’s wolf quickly snaps his jaw again, this time catching Tyson’s wolf’s shoulder. Jared’s wolf tries to shake him, but the black wolf hardly budges, instead striking out by biting back, catching the side of Jared’s wolf’s throat, which results in a quick release of jaws, but another immediate lunge where Jared’s wolf goes for his throat again. Tyson’s wolf isn’t having it; he pounces, managing to grab hold of Jared’s wolf by the scruff the way a mother wolf would do with a pup. Tyson gives a quick shake before pinning him to the ground under his massive body. The other shifters’ circle while all barking, clearly communicating that Jared’s wolf should submit.

Jared’s wolf is wriggling, growling, and manages to get ahold of Mase’s wolf’s leg, sending blood flying. Mase’s wolf strikes back, tearing his ear.

I screech in anger and fear at the sight of what looks like a lot of blood.

Tyson’s wolf chomps down on Jared’s wolf’s shoulder while Mase’s animal bites Jared’s wolf’s belly and I am relieved to see he’s not putting his full strength into it. They’re trying to get him to submit. But Jared’s wolf is down to fuck things up, so he twists hard, reaching for Tyson again, clamping those jagged teeth on the nearest neck. Tyson’s. This has me gasping in fear.

It’s a frenzy of barking, growling, with blood and fur flying. Linc’s wolf bites Jared’s side, hard, and I’m queasy and concerned at the amount of blood Jared’s wolf is leaking.

“Linc!” I shout, before I drop to the ground, crying, feeling ready to vomit.

Now it’s a frenzy of wolf bodies with growling, barking, and teeth tearing into flesh. Mase’s and Linc’s wolves lunge and bite into Jared’s wolf’s body on either side, pinning him while Tyson takes what looks like a painful bite wound as Jared’s wolf’s mouth is clamped near Tyson’s ribs. Tyson stays still and takes it while Linc and Mase take the opportunity to pin Jared’s wolf with theirs. Joel moves in on the other side, in man form. Tyson breaks free and Jared’s wolf is still pinned under the other two massive wolves, but doesn’t submit, doesn’t stop barking, growling, squirming under the weight of them.

I’m freaking out, bad. I am not helpless and that’s exactly what I feel like right now. Joel’s lips move and Mase vaults off. Jared’s wolf’s body twists and his mouth clamps around Mase’s wolf’s hind leg. Mase shifts to human, half to wolf, then human before wolf again. Maybe because of his injuries.

Jared’s wolf stops barking and stares at Mase’s wolf, tilting his head like he’s confused.

Joel immediately engages a weapon, and now Jared’s wolf is convulsing.

Linc’s wolf jerks back and stumbles before shaking it off, obviously feeling some part of the effects where Jared’s wolf has gone limp, eyes closing. Linc quickly shifts twice so I jump in the water, swimming that way.

“Go back!” Mase shouts.

Fuck that!
