“So, what was it like?” Jimmy asks as we walk down the backstreets, avoiding traffic, people, and anything remotely looking like paparazzi.
“What?” I’m walking swiftly, my heart racing a million miles an hour.
“You said you and Donovan weren’t like that.” Jimmy walks casually with his hands in his pockets, and my mind races to think what he’s talking about.
“Oh, well, I mean, it happened slowly, I guess. I didn’t really understand what was happening until it did.” I open my bag to grab my cell, wanting to try Donovan again. But as I open it up, my phone isn’t there. I mentally curse, remembering I left it on the table in the kitchen.
“So me asking you out was just bad timing?” he pushes, and I frown.
“Yeah. Exactly.” I nod, wanting to end this topic.
“Here, this way. There's a shortcut.” He walks us down a small park track. I frown but follow, having no idea there was a shortcut through here. It would've been good to know that months ago when I was trudging to the shop from the subway.
“So if circumstances were different?” Jimmy asks as the path thins a little, larger trees all around.
“What do you mean, different? What are you asking me, Jimmy?” I’m a little frustrated. I just need to get out of here. To the subway and to my apartment. I pull my scarf tighter, the cool late afternoon air icing my neck.
“I’ve been asking you out for almost a year, Jay Jay. Before Donovan was someone you knew.”
“I’m sorry, Jimmy, but we’re friends.” I shrug, not owing him an explanation.
“Friends?” There's a hint of sarcasm to his voice.
“Yes, friends. Where are we going?” I look around as I follow him, the sky now almost dark, my hands frozen, my nose running from the cold, and the shortcut we’re taking now covered in trees. So much so, I’m not even sure where we are anymore.
“You know, we could’ve been good together.”
My steps falter, skin prickling. “Jimmy… where are we going?” Something doesn’t feel right.
“We could’ve been sooooo good, Jay Jay.” He stops and turns to look at me, and I gulp. His eyes are wild. Not the soft blue they usually are but more hardened and cold.
“Jimmy? Where are we?” I push my glasses up my nose, trying to get a better grasp on where we are. “Where’s the subway?” I turn, looking, not knowing which way is which anymore.
“Do you want to find out how good?”
I whip around to look at him, seeing him now close, his steps toward me so quiet I had no idea he was right next to me.
“Jimmy?” I whisper, fear crawling up my spine.
“Hmmmm. I think you’re a little dick tease.”
“Jimmy… we’re friends.” My voice is shaky, my eyes moving everywhere, wondering how to get myself out of this situation. I take a small step back, away from him, but with no idea which way to run, I feel like a deer caught in a trap.
“If you wanted my cock, pretty girl, all you had to do was ask.” He lunges forward, his hands grabbing on to my upper arms, and he pushes me to the ground.
“Jimmy!” I scream as I thrash underneath him. My glasses fall off, rendering me almost blind in the darkness.
“No need to play so hard to get… I know you want it.” His wet lips hit my cheek as he pins my shoulders to the ground. I lift my knee to kick him, but he sits on my upper thighs before grabbing my hands, lifting them above my head and holding them tight in one of his.
“Get off me!” I grit out, jolting my body, doing anything I can to get him off me.
“Oh fuck, you’re so hot for it, aren’t you? Such a feisty little thing…” He doesn’t sound like himself. He sounds nothing like the guy I’ve come to know.
His spare hand moves to my jeans, unbuttoning the waist.
“Stop, Jimmy, no…” I’m pleading now. He’s too big and heavy. I can’t push him off, and my hands are held tight as he sits on my thighs, my body flat on the dirt. Dread consumes me at what’s coming.
