“Aye!” I yelled as the man quickly hooked my car up. “What the hell are you doing?”
His head shook as he avoided my eyes. “Sorry, ma’am. The owner asked for this car to be towed to his residence.”
“What are you talking about? This is my car.”
“Trevor Bowens is listed as the owner, and he’s the one requesting the car.”
My body deflated from the sound of his words. Just when I thought this man couldn’t get any pettier. You’d think getting his ass beat would’ve given him something else to focus on, but apparently, that wasn’t the case.
“Fine,” I agreed with a dismissive wave of my hand. I loved my G-Wagon, but it was a gift from Trevor, and if he wanted itback, I didn’t give a fuck. I could buy my own. When I made it back inside the salon, of course all eyes were on me. Clapping my hands, I told them, “Okay, people. Back to minding your own or somebody else’s business. Get the hell out of mine.”
I was irritated more than anything that he’d done that foul shit at my place of business knowing how important it was to me. As soon as I made it to my office, I called Carson and was tickled over the fact that I was quickly becoming the kind of woman who called her man for literally everything. My daddy used to be my first call for everything, but since we’d come back from our trip, Carson had easily taken on that role.
“Wassup, sunshine?”
“Are you busy, babe?”
“I’m never busy when it comes down to you.”
I smiled as I sat down. “Trevor just had my car towed.”
“Damn. I’m sorry, baby. I know how much you loved it.”
“It’s fine. I can buy another one. Plus, I really wanted that new drop top anyway.”
“How are you getting home? Do you want me to pick you up?”
“I was going to Uber or use a car service.”
“Nah. I’ll pick you up. Just call me around thirty minutes before you’re ready to leave.”
“Are you sure?”
“Of course. I planned on taking you to dinner tonight anyway. I’ll just get dressed before I pick you up, and I’ll take you home so you can change.”
“Okay, babe. I’ll see you later then.”
“See you later.”
After disconnecting the call, I relaxed in my seat. I was sure Trevor was at his home or office swearing he’d gotten one over on me. He probably was waiting for me to call and curse his ass out, but I wouldn’t. As mad as I initially was, I decided not tosweat it. I wouldn’t allow him to have that kind of power over me. A car could be replaced unlike my sanity, and I refused to let this man and his petty shenanigans drive me crazy.
Chapter
Twenty-Four
Carson
After Trevor’s latest stunt,I decided to move up the trip to Chicago to take Venus’s mind off things. We left two days after he had the Wagon towed and stayed for a week. Chicago was always a vibe, but it was best in the summer and fall. Nothing topped summertime Chi. During this time, the weather was trash, but I dealt with the cooler temperatures and cloudy skies to make Venus smile, and she thoroughly enjoyed herself. On our last day here, my paralegal told me she’d stumbled across some information that might interest me.
Before Venus and I left, me and Tristan brainstormed and decided either I needed to find something against Trevor that we could countersue for, or we’d have to settle. I felt like him seeing me as her representation sent him over the edge. What he thought would end with me agreeing to convince her to settle turned into me making it clear to him that she wasn’t going to pay him a fucking dime.
Venus said Trevor had offered to pay for the wedding and that her parents agreed to pay for the wedding dress. Even if thatdeal was made verbally only, I was sure a judge would force him to honor that. On the off chance they wanted to be fair and make her pay for something, it would only be half the expenses for the wedding, and I’d take care of that. I would bet his attorney knew that too, and that’s why he was trying to get us to settle out of court for $300,000, which was the same amount he had listed that he paid for the wedding.
I gave them one week to have all receipts for the expenses sent to my office for consideration of the settlement, and I figured there was something there that Hollie wanted me to see. Either way, I was excited to get to the office with the hope it would lead to me being able to countersue his bitch ass.
Before I did, there was one other matter of business that needed to be handled. I could tell Venus was in her own little world as we cruised down the street. She didn’t sit up in her seat until we turned into the Mercedes dealership. Her head whipped in my direction, and I couldn’t help but chuckle when she gripped my arm.
“Babe,” she said, looking out of the window. “What are we doing here?”
