He brought Jami up to speed on the accident and Mads going to the hospital, reassuring Jami that they were fine. They had security now, but for their future gigs, they'd need better security around them. The entire time Mads sat stone-still and listened, but didn't say a word. That bothered him more than any of this other shit. Way more.
Chapter Twenty-Eight
Maddyn listened to Axel and Jami discuss this issue and all the things Lacey had done to date. She couldn't respond or talk. Unbelievable that they'd be in this position just when they'd gotten together. Was it a sign? She was big on signs, always looking for them in situations. Perhaps they weren't meant to be together.
Her stomach lurched at the thought. Maybe that was a sign. It made her sick to think of letting him go. It would be worse now, because they'd still work together, and she'd have to see him with groupies and other women, and she'd know what she was missing. Making love with him was like no other. They were perfectly in sync with each other.
"Mads?" She turned to see Axel watching her. "Jami asked how you're doing."
"Oh." She sat straighter. "I'm fine. Nobody has ever stalked me and nearly run me off the road before. And called me a slut several times in a few days, so there's that."
Axel laid his hand on her shoulder and squeezed. Jami blew out a breath. "All of it is surreal, Mads. We've never dealt with anything like this before. But we're all united in making sure you and Axel are safe. Tony and I have spoken to Mitch. He's working on beefing up security for tonight and every gig."
She took a deep breath, and it didn't hurt. Tight is how she'd describe it. "I appreciate it." She turned to see Axel watching her. "We appreciate it."
His lips turned up in a sexy grin. She smiled. It was hard not to. He winked at her, and her tummy fluttered. He gave her all the feels. That was a sign, wasn't it?
Closing her eyes, she sat back in her chair. There were far too many signs floating around right now. She couldn't keep up with where she was with all of them.
"Of course. Mads, you and Axel are necessary to the band. We've been together forever. We're family. Maybe not by blood, but found family is just as important as blood family. We stick together. Always."
She swallowed the lump in her throat and blinked to keep the tears from falling. Jami and the others were her family. "Thanks, Jami."
"Axel, are you good man?"
"Yeah." It sounded like a croak.
He cleared his throat. He stared into her eyes, and she saw him in them. No one had ever looked at her like he did. He loved her; she could see it. She hoped he could see in her eyes how much she loved him.
Jami took a deep breath. "Okay. Be at the Barn at noon. Zeke will be here, and we'll work with him on loading our equipment. I'm calling Sean next to fill him in. We all need to be extra vigilant right now. She may decide to escalate by attacking the others if she can't get to you two."
Her stomach dropped. How much more would there be? How much more could there be? Now that she had hacked into their accounts, she could surely bring in the authorities. Weren't there laws? If not the hacking, certainly the hit-and-run.
Axel's voice broke her train of thought. "We'll be there."
"Okay, you two. Take care, and we'll see you in a few hours."
She nodded. "Bye, Jami. Thank you."
Axel replied, "Later, bud."
Ending the call, he set his phone down. "Are you hungry? We should eat something."
She stood. "I'll make breakfast."
"Are you sure? You need to take care of yourself."
She stood on her toes and kissed his lips. "I'm sure. I love to cook, and you have a dream kitchen."
He chuckled. "Okay. I'm not much of a cook, so I'll let you do your thing. But I will point out that you can cook in this kitchen all the time if you move in with me."
She grinned. "When I move in, it won't be because of your kitchen, Axel. It'll be because I'm making a commitment to you. The kitchen is a bonus."
His lips widened into the perfect smile. "When? I love it. Maybe we should see if Zeke wants to help you move?"
She took a deep breath. Why was she hesitating? She knew full well she wanted to be with Axel. There were no questions about any of that. And as he sang his song to her, didn't he tell her how much he loved her? What would it take to erase the fear she had about giving up her own place?
She stared into his eyes. "Can we talk about it later?"
