“You- you can’t be? We made sure she could never have a baby with him. We killed the baby she was pregnant with.” He fires back, and I grin.

“That baby you killed— it was yours, you idiot,” I inform him. It’s the one thing I’ve been holding onto until now. It was in the letter she left me, and I’ve been saving it for this moment.

“You’re lying. No–” he lets go, and I heave, trying to catch my breath as he pulls at his hair. Then he spins on me, looking deep in my eyes and seeing what he’s never seen before.

“I look just like her don’t I? It’s the reason you’re so obsessed!” I accuse, but he says nothing. So I keep going. “You were so insecure that she found love with Tripp, and you couldn’t have that. Right? If you couldn’t have her, no one else could. So you made a plan with Tatum, and look how that ended up.” I taunt as he stands by the kitchen table, shaking his head. “What happened with Quinn? She would never try to kill herself. I’m her best fucking frien–” My head suddenly whips to the side as a sting laces my cheek.

“You don’t understand,” he spits, gripping my hair and smashing my head into the metal fridge. My vision blurs as he spins me around, throwing me into the table.

“Oh, I understand. You’re a fucking monster! A killer! A fucking rapist!” I yell.

“You shut the fuck up. Just shut the fuck up!” He screams, punching my thighs and stomach, then lifting my head only to slam it down against the wood. I scream, kick and sink my nails into his chest, arms and face. My spine aches along with my head from the number of times it's been banged around.

“Fuck you Jeremy! Fuck you!” I scream, kicking him in the nuts.He falls to his knees and I get up quickly as the room begins to spin. I spot the knife on the floor across the kitchen and run for it, picking it up and turning just as he charges me. Gripping my wrist, I try with everything I have to sink it into his chest, but it’s no use; he’s stronger than me. My wrist snaps, and something sharp causes me to inhale a sharp breath. It’s like the wind was knocked out of me. I look down and see the metal blade sticking out of my chest. I cough as blood splatters against his skin. I came here to kill him. I came here to avenge my best friend's death. My father's murder and all the fucked up shit heput my mother through, and where did it leave me? Falling to the ground, struggling for just a little bit of air as blood seeps down my naked flesh. I guess this is it. He’s not going to save me. No one can. I lay on the tile floor as I bleed out while he hovers over me with a cruel smile across his face.

“You could never be her, but I guess she’s next,” He laughs as he lifts his foot, and all I see is the bottom of it before everything goes black…

The Dollmaker

Epilogue

Savannah-

It’s been a few days since some of the dolls returned with their teenagers. I’m still waiting for a few more, but something is wrong. Madelyn, Quinn, and Charlee are the only ones left, but I can’t feel Quinn, and the jolt that just ran through my body is telling me something bad is either happening at this moment or has already happened.

I step out of the front door into the sunlight and look up at the sky. Dark clouds start to form, and lightning strikes the metal fence just after Madelyn shuts it. Thunder crashes above us as all the teenagers rush towards me from the house, with Bones following behind. He lands on my shoulder, pecking at my hair as I hear rattling at the fence. Looking over, I see Olive and Sadie using their magic to fly over. I laugh as I watch Sadie navigate herself and barrel roll into the fountain, submerging into the water.

“Christ, Sadie, we really need to do a crash course on your landing or something,” Olive huffs, and I continue to laugh.

“Shut up, Olive. It’s fun as fuck.” She giggles, and Olive just shakes her head. Her eyes fly to mine, and all I see is sadness.

“Olive, where’s Charlee?” I ask, just as another rumble of thunder crashes above us and lightning strikes the lamp post, bursting the glass into a million pieces. The sky suddenly darkens, turning everything to a light gray.

“What is happening right now?” Olive asks as Sadie climbs out of the fountain, shivering. Olive snaps her fingers, and Sadie twirls like a tornado. I laugh when she comes to a stop and falls on the driveway.

“That was too fast Olive, I think I’m going to be sick.” Sadie groans.

“Well lie there for a second, get your bearings babe before getting up so you don’t break an arm or something,” Olive tells her.

“Alright, girls. What is going on?” I ask—no, I demand, and they both snap their heads to me, but don’t say anything as they grab each other's hands and widen their eyes behind me. “Wh—”

“Hey there, Dolly.” A deep voice rasps from behind me, and I spin, seeing a tall man, shirtless with black leather pants, gorgeous, thick black and silver wings on his back and deep red eyes.My god, he’s beautiful. The curled red horns protruding from his temples are intriguing. I almost want to reach out and touch them. Sadie and Olive come to stand next to me, but I notice Sadie has the biggest grin on her face.

“Do you know him?” I whisper and she looks up at me with a smile.

“You know him too, that’s deadly, aka Kai in his demon form.” She tells me, and my eyes widen. He clears his throat, and she rolls her eyes.

“I’m not a demon. I am the devil himself now. Welcome to hell,” he laughs, which echoes through the yard so loudly as a chill snakes up my spine. The wind picks up around us, and Ilook into the house and see the others all with a frightened look across their faces. The entire scene before us transforms into night with fire bellowing from the ground.

“Kai, what is this? Where did you take us?” I ask, and he just laughs.

“You’ll see soon enough, Sav,” He tells me, but I don’t like that answer. The teenagers and their dolls come to stand behind me, each one touching a part of my body, sending their energy through my veins. It’s so strong it almost makes me want to vomit.

“Sadie,” A voice calls out, and both dolls gasp as Quinn steps out beyond Kai’s wings.

“Quinn? Is that really you?” She asks and Quinn nods.

“It is,” she cries as Sadie runs towards her, letting Quinn scoop her up into her arms. I look down at Olive with a raised brow.
