He set the phone back in its cradle. "I've decided you and I should go out tomorrow night."

Oh, did he?"I have a date."

"Then tonight."

My cell phone rang. It was Seth. I answered immediately out of desperation to hear a voice that wasn't creepy.

Seth's deep voice came through the line like a soothing hug. "Thank you, again, for yesterday. I, uh…"

"No problem." I put my hand over the phone as if that would muffle it. I kind of wanted Seth to hear me. To Nolan I said, "Mr. Cannon, I have to take this."

"How's work?" Seth asked.

I walked away from the desk and said low to not be overheard, "My boss decided to fill in at the front today."

"The one who hit on you during the first week on the job?"

"He's making me rethink the value of staying here. The jerk decided he and I are going out and won't take no for an answer. What's aggravating is he doesn't give two flips aboutme. He just wants to…" I stopped myself before giving a graphic image of something gross with my boobs. "Touch the girls and have me blow him."

"Don't let him be the reason you quit if you like this job."

"I won't. Hey, I'll see you tomorrow. Forget last night. It's history."

"I can't thank you enough. If I'd had to call anyone else there'd be pictures and a scandal. It'd be a mess."

"Pictures…" I paused dramatically. "I knew I forgot something."

He chuckled.

"How's Henry today?"

"He had diarrhea blowing out his butt all night."

"Poor guy."

"My poor house, you mean. Smells like a sewer. No, it smells worse than that."

"Did you call my sister about it?"

"That's on my list today. Pretty sure it was the donut he had for dinner that caused it.”

“Or the stress of everything.” I smiled. "I'm disappointed in your hookup leaving you that way."

"Just know you're better than that asshole you work with. Gotta go." He hung up.

After another hour of Nolan's annoying comments about our upcoming date, I began researching who to send my my two weeks' notice.

A man in a tan sheriff uniform held the front door for a lady bringing in what looked to be takeout in two huge bags. My heart flip-flopped to recognize Seth. What was he doing so far out of his jurisdiction?

Seth rotated to help the delivery woman reorient her bags, which gave me a drool-worthy look at his perfect ass in those khaki cargo pants. I wavered on my no-sex-with-Seth vow as I checked in the delivery lady and waved her through the electronic gate to the elevators.

Seth moved up to the desk. He shot Nolan a judgmental glare that would make most men's ass pucker in fear. He leaned across the counter, "How's your day?"

"Better, now that you're here."

He rested a bag on the counter that I hadn't even noticed he carried. "I brought you lunch. And…" He held up a single long-stemmed pink rose. "Last night was…unforgettable. Thank you."
