Her entire body felt frozen.Thatsure sounded like it was about them as a couple.
Several silent moments passed while she and Paul stared at Noah’s card.
They liked her game. Jake had liked it. This was her big chance to do what she loved. Be a game designer in the big leagues.
Maybe it was a pity offer. They messed up her life. So, here was her olive branch.
That sucked, if so. This wasn’t a path she wanted to take. She’d be forever immortalized as the programming gamer who fucked her way into a deal.
Paul rotated the card to read it. He broke the silence. “You made a game and NJ Legacy wants it? This is a legit NJ Legacy business card, isn’t it?TheNJ Legacy that put outZoneworld, right?”
“I guess so.” She picked up the card and flipped it over. Noah had written:Call me, dragonfly. Now she had a choice: deal with NJ Legacy and the stress of working with Noah or shop her game elsewhere. The latter sounded good, but she’d shopped it for the past few months with Conjur being her first nibble.
“I think you need to work out whatever’s going on with Noah before you and I start thinking about anything here.”
“Was there something going on here? Really?” She reached for the wine but couldn’t bring herself to take another sip of the acidic liquid.
“We both know this date wasn’t going anywhere.” He didn’t hold back on chugging his wine.
“Paul, I’m sorry.” Her phone dinged.
Incoming text from Symphis:Tonight. Bring it with you.
Great. An unplanned night in gaming hell.
Paul waved at the waiter. “I was only here to find out what you knew about the game since I heard you were a decent gamer, even though you’re a girl. I’m going to get the check and cancel the meal.”
