Julia:Valid.

Logan:See you Friday?

Julia:Oh, wait! Cameron.

Logan:He’s welcome to come with us.

Julia:Let me see if there’s someone he can hang out with. Otherwise, he does have some pretty slick dance moves.

Logan:Definitely my favorite.

Logan:You too.

She grinned widely and stuck her phone back in her pocket. She never knew it could feel like this to be with someone, like she was on a thrilling rollercoaster ride, but simultaneously floating serenely down a lazy river. It was an entire swirl of contradictions, but in the very best way.

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

Horace

Smitty:Horace, Can you talk? I’ve called you a couple of times. Regards, Smitty Byrd

Horace:Winnie and I are at dinner. She’s tooking to a friend.

Horace:Talking to a friend.

Smitty:I hate texting. –Smitty Byrd

Horace:Me too. Julia insisted I learn.

Smitty:That was Logan and Willow. Trying to show me emo-genies or some such next. –Smitty

Horace:Be careful with those. Some of those emojinis have double meanings.

Smitty:Like what? –Smitty

Horace:You don’t want to know. Also, you don’t have to sign your name at the end of every text. I know it’s you.

Smitty:Apologies. I’m still getting used to this. Are Julia and Timothy back together?

Horace:Julia says they’re not, but I think I can convince her.

Smitty:Maybe. But it might be time to go to the next level. When will Julia be visiting you next?

Horace:She comes every day to drop Cameron off while she works. What about Logan?

Smitty:He was bringing Willow’s kids by, but they went home, so I’m not sure.

Horace:Look at us, bushwhacking.

Horace:BABYSITTING. Dear heavens.

Smitty:I’ve watched my own great-grandchildren more than I spent time with my own children.

Horace:Yes, it’s that way for me too with Cameron. Makes me think we could have done some things different.

Smitty:That Cameron is a good boy.

Horace:He is. I got lucky with my kids and grandkids.
