Not that he knows of, anyway. The security guard who has been keeping an eye on him mentioned he’d noticed a few guys watching Daniel, but so far, it’s not amounted to anything.

Which makes me nervous, and has me wondering if I need to make an unexpected appearance at Joseph’s office.

Imogen enters the office as I force myself to uncoil a little, letting my shoulders drop down. “We should still keep security high. For all we know, that’s the reason he’s stayed away.”

“Yeah. I guess. I’ve been speaking to the lawyers as well. We should talk to Lily about starting the application to divorce the bastard. And take out a DVO on him, so that if he does try anything, we have legal grounds.”

While I understand where he’s coming from, I shake my head. “That needs to be Lily’s call. We can’t make those decisions for her, Daniel.”

He lets out a breath. “I know. I just… I want to help her get her life back.”

“I’ll talk to her about it.”

He chuckles. “That would actually require speaking to her. You realise that, right?”

It takes all my self control not to growl. “I do speak to her.”

Imogen raises an eyebrow as she quite obviously eavesdrops on the conversation.

“Asking her what she wants for breakfast doesn’t count as speaking to her.”

Christ, what has Lily been telling him? I haven’t been that shut down, have I?

“Whatever, I’m hanging up now.”

“Good. Go talk to Lily.”

I grunt and hit the red button on the phone before tossing it onto my desk with a scowl.

“Daniel giving you a hard time about avoiding Lily?” Imogen asks with a smirk.

This time, I do growl. “Not you, too. I have not been avoiding her.”

Lies.

“Liar. You’re in here until all hours of the night, and up before she emerges from her room every day. You are hiding.”

“You haven’t been complaining,” I retort, and she shrugs.

“Of course not. It’s been fun having you be the one actively seeking out daily sex. And I’ve noticed Dante has been in here almost every day for the last few weeks, so he’s clearly enjoying the extra attention. But at some point, you’re going to need to actually talk to the woman who has you all twisted in knots.”

I scowl at her. “I am not twisted in knots.”

“Whatever,” she replies, rolling her eyes. “Everything is all sorted for tonight.”

Relieved she’s changed the subject, I nod. “Good. Are you and Cam attending?”

She grins. “Yep. Never thought I’d get him back for another club night, but after that night at my place, he’s been wanting to explore more.”

“Well, it should be an interesting evening, then.”

“Yes… yes, it should be,” she replies with an almost evil grin.

Poor Cam, he has no idea what he’s getting himself into with this woman.

Spurred on by the conversations with both Daniel and Imogen, I go in search of Lily when I stop to take a lunch break.

I find her in the library, her legs curled beneath her as she reads one of Annika’s smutty books, which is an interesting development. Those kinds of books would have made her turn bright red years ago.
