“Good. Use it,” he says. “Please. Day or night, remember?”
“Yeah,” I say quietly. He moves his hand, and I pull the door open and slip out before I change my mind.
Walking away from him feels like a breakup. He was the only person I knew who cared about me. I lost all of my friends a long time ago, and now I don’t even have him.
Chapter Two
Dominic
I should have knownbetter than to say that. I fucking knew she would shut down. Myra is so fucking stubborn, but it’s the anxiety that drives her to these impulsive decisions. She has ADHD and severe anxiety, and she internalizes everything. I’ve suggested medicine dozens of times because she’s not doing anything other than cutting herself to cope. Maybe I am a bit too confident that she won’t try to kill herself, but she needs an outlet.
Well… I think even more now that she needs to get the fuck away from Leon. I knew he was a piece of shit, but she hid all of that. I didn’t even know that she was still in contact with her father. She knew if she let one thing out, she’d have to let it all out.
The other dilemma I have is that I’ve allowed myself to get far closer to her than I ever should have. Patients have no business having my personal cell number, nor should I be texting them. Yet, I do. I text her every fucking day. I find myself thinking about her in ways I shouldn’t. I should have referred her out, but that would mean losing her. She is an amazing woman, and all I want to do is protect her. I want to make her happy. When we sit and talk for our normal two-hour appointment, it’s the highlight of my week.
Instead of texting her like I want to, I call Matt. Matt Sharpe is my best friend and colleague. We have known each other since we were two years old. He’s married to a wonderful woman named Natalie. I wouldn’t say I am part of their dynamic as such, but I have joined them on many occasions. We are the owners of Sensoria, a BDSM club. Matt and I are both strictly dominant, but Natalie is a switch. She has a girl named Amber that she is a Domme for. It’s interesting to see her as a submissive with Matt one day and a Domme for Amber the next.
“Hey, Dom,” Matt says. “Shouldn’t you be with a patient?”
“I need to ask you something, and I’m asking as your friend, not a colleague, because I’m about to break the law by telling you this,” I say.
“Uh oh. Is everything okay with Myra?” he asks.
“I’m ashamed that you knew it was about her,” I say.
“Mmmm. Yeah, I’ll refrain from saying why right now. What’s up?”
“She came in today crying. I got her back in my office and calmed down, but immediately saw she had blood on her arm. She eventually let me look, and she cut herself pretty badly. I know she does it, but this is the first time I’ve seen it new. Long story short, her piece-of-shit boyfriend is abusive. Like… really abusive,” I say.
“Oh, shit. What did he do?”
“He screamed at her for waking him up by crying during a nightmare. Apparently, he frequently tells her that she should kill herself. She sat there and explained that he regularly rapes her and has the entire time she’s been with him. Their relationship started when she was in college. I remember that because she got mad at me when I told her that moving in with him so quickly was a bad idea. I tried to get her to live in a dorm, but she refused,” I explain. “She was crying because she walked in on him getting his dick sucked by a patient in his office. So now, not only do I have to consider that, but she just openly admitted that he rapes her, slaps her, and is emotionally abusive. I mentioned that I am a mandated reporter, and she shut down and left… Only after telling me to cancel her appointments and that she was done, though.”
“Fuck… Okay… Do you think her life is in danger?”
“She said if I reported it, he would kill her. Also, Leon and her dad are friends, apparently.”
“The same dad that sexually assaulted her almost daily from the time she was a young kid?”
“Mhmm,” I say. “She said they’d both kill her.”
“Without reporting, do you think her life is in danger?” he asks.
“Honestly… Yeah. She said he rapes her violently. He is a drunk and is already hitting her. I don’t think it would take much to throw him over the edge,” I say.
“Then you know what my answer is, Dominic. I know you don’t want to make her mad, but her life is far more important than your feelings for her,” he says straightforwardly.
“My feelings?” I ask. “What is that supposed to mean?”
“I’ve met the girl, man. Every single sub you have in that club looks just like her. You are in love with that woman,” he says. “Put that aside for a second. What would you do if it were any other client?”
“Call the sheriff,” I say. “I’d make an unofficial report just so they are aware.”
“Then do that,” Matt says. “Eventually, she will look back and be thankful that you did it.”
“And if she actually does get killed?”
“Then we bury the motherfucker for hurting your girl,” he laughs.
