So much for enjoying my day with Rafe. After his revelations, a heavyweight hung around our necks as we walked for several miles through the park, stopping at a little cafe for coffee and cake while I filled Rafe in on what I’d been doing at the center.
All too soon, the afternoon sun began to sink in the sky. We said ourgoodbyes with Rafe promising to call me as soon as he was back from New York, both our eyes filling with tears as we hugged.
The familiar twinge of loneliness sank into the marrow of my bones as I wasdriven home. I wouldn’t be able to speak to Rafe for a while, and I doubted Miles would be at home to keep me company any time soon.
A tear rolled down my cheek as despair for both me and my brotherconsumed me. I quickly brushed it away so my guards didn’t witness mymoment of heartache, and as I turned my head to stare out the window, I realized we were about to pass Exotique again.
Only this time, a queue had formed outside, and one of the men from earlierwas checking IDs, while the second was talking to a third man. One I recognized instantly.
My husband.
As the car passed the club, Miles patted the security guard on the shoulderbefore strolling into the club, seemingly without a care in the world.
Chapter 18
Sofia
“Stop the car.”I grabbed the door handle and yanked it, cursing when itdidn’t open.
“Mrs. Wolfe, we can’t-”
“Stop the fucking car!”I screamed, murderous rage sweeping through me.
How dare he.
Howfuckingdare he.
The car came to a screeching halt, and after several attempts to open thedoor, Connor hit a button, and the locks clicked open. Without giving it a second thought, I was out of the car, marching along the street toward the entrance of the sex club. Behind me, Connor and Rob called my name, but I ignored them, fueled by adrenaline and anger pumping through my veins.
Reaching the security guards, and with red mist clouding my vision, it didn’toccur to methatthey wouldn’t let me through. A beefy hand landed on my shoulder, and a burly man scowled at me.“Where do you think you’re going, darling?”
“Take your hand off me,”I snarled.“And I’m going in there to find out whatthe hell my husband is up to.”
He chuckled, waggling his brows.“I can tell you what your husband is up toin there.”
Patronizing prick.
I doubted this was the first time a scorned wife had turned up anddemanded they be allowed into the club to catch their deceitful husbands in the act. The asshole probably enjoyed this part of his job.
I shrugged his arm off me, trying my damned hardest not to be intimidatedby the way he was towering over me.“Let me in.”
“Not today, Princess.”
“Mrs. Wolfe, you can’t run off likethat,”Rob said, coming up behindme.
“Mrs. Wolfe?”The doorman’s face paled, and all hint of sarcasm vanishedfrom his tone.
I couldn’t help the triumphant smirk taking over my face. Thank fuck forhaving a last namethatheld power.
“Yep. Mrs. Wolfe. My husband is the man you let in. So be a doll, andlet me through,”I replied, giving him a saccharine smile.
He opened his mouth to replyjustas his colleague tapped him on theshoulder, his features hard as stone as he repocketed his phone.“Let her in.”
The first beefy man looked at the other like he’d sprouted a second head, butdoing as he was told, he unclipped the rope barrier and stepped aside. Somewhat bewildered, I crossed the threshold. Behind me, Rob made to follow, only to be stopped by the man who’d barked the order to let me pass.“Not you.”
The two men stared at each other, an unreadable look passing between them, before Rob took a step back.
I wasn’t going to hang around waiting for them to argue. I had bigger fish tofry, namely catching my husband with his pants down.
