I looked down at the little piece of burned paper. I unfolded it and smoothed it out. I scanned the words, only slightly burnt at the edge.

They read:

I’ve never been more in love with you than I am right now.

Tears immediately flooded my eyes, obscuring my vision. I gripped the paper with shaky hands.

“It was true then,” Julian said softly. “And it’s even more true now.” He took the paper from my hand and set it aside. He clasped our hands together and brought them to his chest.

“Ev. Ever. Everly. I don’t care what you call yourself. To me, you’re always going to be that girl who wanted to change the world through music. I adore you. I worship you.”

He didn’t pause. He didn’t stammer. He pressed a kiss on my knuckles and met my eyes.

“I love you.”
