Four people. He meant all the vampires, didn't he? Vlad's expression didn't change, but Talon was frowning and Crimson was shaking his head. "You really can't compare that," Crimson said to Aldrich. "We didn't give up our memories willingly. We didn't sacrifice them for the greater good. No one ever asked us to pick the memory we loved the most and abandon it."

"Maybe not," Aldrich allowed, "but we woke to this life with no idea of our past and you won’t see me crying about it."

"So you don't care that you don't know your past?"

"Knowing my future is more important."

"You don't know the future," Remy said, more sharply than Jared was used to hearing from him. "Nobody knows the future."

Aldrich shot him a glance, and although he looked like he wanted to say more, he shut up.

"It's probably best if we sleep on this," Remy said, addressing all of them. "We can come up with a plan in the morning."

"Are you going to sleep or are you just saying that?" Aldrich asked, letting Jared know he wasn't the only one who'd noticed his brother's sorry state.

Remy responded by shooting the vampire a scathing look, and then completely ignoring him. He got up from his seat on the couch, walked to the door and then addressed Vlad instead. "I think we'd all sleep better if you left."

"I understand." Vlad rose from his chair, and then, in a blink, he was gone. Almost as if he'd been erased out of existence.

"He's going to be back," Collin commented, even as he stifled a yawn. In his arms, his infant son was sleeping, undisturbed by all that was going on around him.

"I'd tell him to stay away, but I don't think he'd listen," Remy said. "Besides, I got the feeling that we can use him."

A feeling or a premonition? Jared wanted to ask, but at the same time, he didn't want to expose Remy's secrets to everyone. He wasn't sure he was ready to believe that Remy was prophetic either, because if he was... Whatever future he was seeing, it wasn't good.
