“No, Mace,” she says. “No hiding. I know it’s what you do, but not anymore. Not from me. Take me to your darkest places and let me be your light.” Tears well in her eyes until my vision shimmers too. She leans over me, her lips ghosting mine. “I was never the one who was scared, was I?”

My hands rove across her hips and thighs as I search for a response. I take hold of her ass and pull her down as I thrust upwards. “You terrified me from the moment I set eyes on you,” I admit.

Lily shakes her head. “No, it was your feelings that frightened you,” she says. Her voice cracks when she adds, “But you’re safe with me. You’ll always be safe with me.”

My fingers dig into her ass cheeks as our bodies clash and our souls meld. “I love you, Lily. I love you so fucking much.”

Her smile wobbles as she sits up, her eyes never leaving mine. “No more waiting. Fuck me, Shade. Now!”

As we start to thrash, I stop fighting my release. I stop fighting my emotions. I give Lily everything. She rides me hard, rolling her body against mine each time we come together, and fuck, do we come together.

“Damn, I love you so much,” I say, gritting out the words as she shatters around my cock, and I come with a roar. And through it all, I don’t look away. I hold her gaze. “I love you, Lily. I love you. I. Fucking. Love. You.”

“I love you too,” she says, tears streaking down her cheeks. “And I declare this a draw. We both win.”

We come down from our high together, and when she collapses onto my chest, I stay inside her. I pull trails of sweat-damp hair from her face.

“What happens now?” she asks as she settles against me.

The comforter is trapped beneath us, but I drag it from both sides to wrap around Lily’s naked body. Our future should be something we plan together, but it all seems pretty obvious. “We move all your stuff out of your apartment. You resign from Royston’s with immediate effect, and–”

Lily goes to lift off me, but I have her swaddled in the bed linen. “I can’t just hand in my notice.”

“Why not? You’ve been looking for another job,” I say. “Oh, and no, you’re not going to work for Calder. He knows better than to offer you a position under him.” My cock is already starting to thicken again inside her. “That’s my job.”

“But I need to work,” Lily says. She shifts slightly, aware I’m getting hard again.

“You can work with me. You’re part of Griffin Corps now.” I know I’m exposing Lily to the inevitable dangers of our lifestyle, but it isn’t just me who’ll be protecting her. She gets my brothers as part of the deal as well.

“You’d want me working with you? Isn’t that too much?”

“There’s no such thing as too much when it comes to you,” I say as I start moving inside her. “I never knew this huge piece of me was missing, but you complete me, Lily. In the best possible way.”

Lily clenches her core muscles and then some. I let out a groan. “Are you sure I’m not too much?”

I burn from her smoldering gaze. “Never.”

She wets her lips. “Welcome to the light, Shadowman.”

I loosen the comforter binding Lily enough to roll us both, and I thrust into her as she lands on her back. “Don’t think Iwon’t keep you in the shade when I need to,” I warn. “No more going off radar. Ever.”

She frowns. “I don’t want that either.”

As I’m kissing away the shadows that cross her features, we’re interrupted by a security alert.

“Neutralize annoying brother has been activated,” Neo announces.

I rest my forehead on Lily’s. “I could leave him out there. He’ll go away eventually.”

“Deactivate the neutralize annoying brother command,” Lily instructs my virtual assistant.

“Deactivated.”

I shake my head. “Don’t make me regret giving you so much power.”

Our hips move together of their own accord as we listen to footsteps in the entrance hall. Reid mutters to himself as he flounders in the dark.

“Secure my bedroom and turn the lights on low in the entrance hall and living room,” I command because it’s clear my brother has had too much to drink to work that one out for himself. Someone else must have driven him home, but thankfully, he’s the only one to enter the apartment. I wouldn’t have put it past my family to launch an invasion. They all know why I left early.
