“Jesus Christ. Haven, what the fuck do you actually know about sex?” He sits back and crosses his arms over his barrel chest and glares at me.

“I know the mechanics. Insert penis into vagina, move about...” I can feel my face flushing from my total lack of knowledge on a subject so natural that my not knowing how to perform it is clearly a crime in this world.

“You need to learn how to fake it at least because Danica was a sexual creature by nature. She flirted with everything that walked. Orgies were a weekly thing, so you trying to act like her tomorrow without that will be useless. I got better chances passing your dog off as her.” I cringe like a kid being scolded for their bad grades in school.

“Okay, so teach me. Or do I need first-hand experience, cause if so, never mind.” He huffs and runs his hands through his hair.

“Eat. I got a problem with wasted food.” I taste the dish and moan.

“Right? This place is the fucking best.” We eat in silence for a few minutes until his plate is cleared and I’m almost done with my own.

Guess I worked up an appetite.

“Alright, so you were a star pupil in school. It was one of the reasons Danica envied you so much. You learned faster than she did. She said someone could show you once, and you just got it. It irritated the shit outta of her.” He stands and grabs a computer from a bag near the closet as he talks.

“Welcome to Fucking 101.”

He flips the laptop open in front of me, and porn starts playing.

“DUDE! Informed consent is a thing. What the fuck is this?” I tilt my head to the side to figure out what I’m seeing.

“That is what is commonly known as the London Bridge,” he starts explaining everything, playing on the screen.

Three hours later, I can name more sexual positions than bones in the body.

“You’re actually a really good teacher,” I comment as I stretch.

“I ought to be. I did it for ten years.” My jaw drops to the floor.

“Excuse the fuck out of me?” He laughs and sits across the room, lighting a joint and taking a long pull before exhaling a large cloud of smoke into the air above him.

“Mmm, that was another lifetime ago.” I shake my head and realize I’d better stop making so many assumptions about these bikers.

They are always full of surprises.

“Wait, how old are you? If I’m supposed to be your old lady, shouldn’t I know you? Besides, in the biblical sense.” He points the joint at me and nods as he finishes his last pull.

“Good point. I’m forty-six. Originally from Philadelphia. I’m a retired veteran, Army, and I taught high school Science for ten years.” He takes another hit and offers it to me.

I shake my head and sit on the corner of the bed with so many questions, but the most important one tumbles from mylips unfiltered and so full of judgment that halfway through, I try to fix it.

“Why on earth would you be a nomad biker with a degree in science? I mean, I’m sure you have a good reason, right?” I cringe at myself.

Apex just laughs at me but keeps smoking like I’m the funniest shit around.

“I worked at a catholic school in the suburbs. One evening, I stayed late to grade papers and heard a girl screaming for help. When I went searching, I found a fellow teacher raping a student. I lost it and ended up killing him. I’ve been running ever since.” He raises an eyebrow, waiting for my reaction.

“You should have cut his dick off.” He grins as if I passed a test.

“I did.”

Chapter Sixteen

APEX

It’s fucking incredible how a one-hundred-pound dog and one woman that’s not much bigger can take up an entire king-size bed. I adjust the blanket around me and try yet again to get comfortable on the too-small couch.

I roll on my side and bring my knees up so my ass isn’t hanging off the side. I sigh and close my eyes, but all I see is Danica screaming for my help.
