Not knowing what to do now, I make my way back outside the library and into the bright, cool day. A part of me wants to find Aziz at Dyrk, but I didn’t want to bother him with my problems. So instead, I make my way down the sidewalk heading for Arely’s shop. I hadn’t seen her since the other day, and I wanted to fill my best friend in on what’s been happening.

I knew once I told Arely everything, she would be beside herself with glee. Visions of my best friend skipping around, dancing, laughing, telling me I told you so’s fill my head. One thing about Arely to know, she’s never wrong.

Still, the fact that I’d been dismissed for gods only knows what keeps bothering me. I was only a few minutes late today, and she spat about seeing me with Aziz. Like that’s a horrible thing.

It’s not.

And honestly, it wasn’t any of her business.

What’s bothering me about the whole scenario is that she’d known he was a vampire to begin with. Though after last night with my dad having both of us drink from the goblet he had with him, is he still only just a vampire?

My dad had left before I could ask him any further questions about it. I blindly trusted him and drank what was inside. Same as Aziz had. He seemed somewhat different this morning. He felt warmer. His skin hadn’t been cool. Nor had he been as pale as he had the night before.

Maybe Arely can answer me on this as well.

Making it to her shop, a chill courses down my spine. Same as it had when I felt someone was watching me. I reach for the door of the shop and quickly step inside, only to come to a halt at the sight before me. Arely’s shop was a disaster, and there was blood everywhere.

“Arely,” I call out. She doesn’t answer me. I start to step back out and make a run for it when a dark-haired woman who looks to be my age steps from the back.

“Your friend is a little busy right now.” The woman sneers, looking at me with evil eyes.“Let’s just say she’s busy feeding her powers to the rest of us.”

It didn’t take a rocket scientist to know what she was. Evil swirled around her.

I grip the handle of the door and am ready to run. I don’t get the chance, though. Between one second and the next, a brightorb shoots from the woman’s hand and hits me square in the stomach.

“You won’t be going anywhere, daughter of Apollo.” The woman laughs venomously as I fall to my knees.

My vision blurs as I fall forward. My last coherent thought is that I hope Aziz feels my panic and comes for me.

AZIZ

“What do you mean she’s not at the library?” I snarl into the phone.

“I’m tellin’ you, man, she’s not there,” Justice, the VP of the Spiked Raiders MC, growls into my ear. “Zavier and I were both there. We’re following the scent of her now.”

When I’d called him earlier to ask this favor of him, he agreed so long as I got Sibley to stop fucking with his head about a mate he did not want. I didn’t blame him. I told him I’d talk to her, but I knew he’d do this regardless. I could have sent Dreven or one of the others, but they wouldn’t be able to stand the sun without burning alive. The only one who could is Dreven, and that’s because he’s nearly as old as I am. I still had him by nearly eight hundred years.

A shifter was just the easier choice to go with on this matter.

“What about the librarian? Was she there?” I knew I shouldn’t have let her go there after finding out that witch was also at the library.

Sibley comes running in my direction, face pale and blood tears coating her cheeks. “She’s been taken, Aziz.”

My sister’s words are like a stake to my heart.

“Do you know where they took her?” Why couldn’t I feel anything through the connection between my mate and me? We finished the process and did the goblet thing with Apollo. Things for me felt different. I didn’t crave the need for blood as I had. My skin no longer felt cold to the touch. I had a pulse again, but I still had fangs, my speed, my need for blood, but I also found this morning I could also eat other things and feel full.

I should be able to feel her. I felt her this morning when I searched for it. I knew it was there, just now, I can’t sense it. Could something be blocking it? Dark magic?

“The librarian is still at the library. She’d given us a sneer and walked away,” Justice says at the same time my sister shakes her head to answer my question.

Fuck.

“Grab that witch and bring her to Dyrk,” I tell Justice and hang up. I didn’t need them to follow the scent of my mate. Not when there was someone, I knew we could get the answers from that we needed.
