Skyler:You look amazing today <3

The somersaults in my belly started up again.

Me:Thanks. The donut was amazing too.

Skyler:Good lol I have a question.

Me:I may have an answer.

Skyler:Do you wanna go to Lockton with us tonight? We could use that beautiful brain of yours.

Normally, I’d hesitate in responding, but for once, I knew what I wanted. And I wanted to spend time with him. Even if it was in a haunted asylum.

Me:I’d like that.

Skyler:Awesome. I’ll text you later <3

Around three thirty, I left work and drove home.

Alan greeted me as I walked through the front door. “How was your day?”

“Good.” I hung my coat on the hook. “How about yours?”

“Also good.” He followed me into the living room. “I read a book and watched a documentary. Did you know there’s now a vehicle that can drive itself? I couldn’t believe it.”

I smiled as he told me more about the documentary. He loved watching shows about modern warfare but also anything related to inventions and technological advances. The boy loved his history too. And aliens, for some reason.

“What’s that vibrating?” Alan asked, stopping midsentence. “Your phone?”

I’d left it in my coat pocket and went over to fish it out. Then, I nearly dropped the damn thing when I realized it was a call instead of a text. Skyler’s name flashed across the screen, along with the picture of him eating the donut that I’d saved as his contact photo.

“Uh, hello?” I quickly answered, fumbling with the phone.

“Hey, you.”

God. His voice sounded a bit deeper over the phone. And it definitely did some strange things to my stomach. “Hi.”

“Did I interrupt something? You sound kinda out of breath.”

“No, you didn’t interrupt.” My face heated. “I just got home.”

“Do you wanna have dinner with us?” he asked. “I thought we could eat, then head to Lockton to set up.”

I forgot how to talk for a moment. All I could focus on was that gravelly edge to his voice and how he’d moaned as I fucked him the night before.

“Pax? You there?”

“Oh, um. Yes. I’m here.” I shook my head at myself. I was such an awkward mess of a man. “Dinner would be great.”

“I’m craving sushi. You know any good restaurants?”

“I love sushi too,” I said, noting how much lighter I sounded. We had something else in common. “I know the perfect place.”

“Cool,” he said, the smile in his voice evident.

“Give me a minute to change, and then I’ll head over to meet you.”

Alan stood beneath the living room archway and smiled. It was a smile that said he’d be giving me shit for this later.
