“What do you want to do, Evan?” Briar asked.

“Do?”

“Your line of work,” he clarified. “Bremloc has many different opportunities for people of varying occupations and talents.”

“Stable boy is out of the question,” Maddox said.

I scoffed. “And what wouldyouhave me do, sir knight?”

“As I said before, my room could always use a good cleaning,” he said, straight-faced. But that amused glint returned to his eyes—an expression he reserved for me. “My knights need their boots scrubbed, weapons sharpened, and their shields polished. The pantry in the main building needs restocking. The floor swept and mopped. I could go on.”

“So basically, you want me to be a maid. Is it so you can see me prancing around in a skimpy little outfit and getting all dirty?”

“I like when you’re dirty,” he said with a degree of devilish charm that nearly had me throwing off the blanket and tackling him for another round. “However, I’d insist you be fully clothed. Too great a temptation for my men for you toprance aroundhalf-naked.”

Briar smiled. “He is quite delectable. With or without clothes.”

“Oh my god, stop,” I said with a groan. “Teasing me isn’t nice. Y’all just like to see me blush.”

“Itisa lovely shade on you.” Briar glided his knuckles across my cheek.

The room then lit up with a bright flash of lightning. Instantly, Maddox and Briar reached for me. And as their arms came around me, the following whiplike crack of thunder didn’t affect me nearly as much as it normally would’ve.

“Thanks,” I said, my voice muffled by the blanket. I rested my head in the space between their shoulders, leaning on them both. A kiss was pressed into my hair—I wasn’t sure which of them it had come from.

“Let’s get you into bed.” Maddox rubbed small circles on my back.

“Will we all fit?” I asked.

“We’ll make it work. If not, I’ll take the floor.”

“Like hell you will,” Briar said, the snap catching me by surprise. “If anyone sleeps on the floor, it will be me. This is your room.”

“And you are my guests.”

“Back to being a chivalrous knight, I see.” I grinned before giving a jaw-cracking yawn. The long day was catching up to me. My body was exhausted, muscles sore from all the walking… and other things. One thing stuck out to me though. A big something. I wiggled a little just to be sure. “Hey. Why doesn’t my ass hurt?”

Maddox choked on a laugh.

“I… well.” Briar adjusted his glasses, something I’d noticed he did when feeling awkward. “I might’ve used a bit of magic to ease the… ache… of having both of us… you know. There.”

“Can’t say the words, physician?”

“Not all of us are as vulgar as you, Captain.”

“You used magic?” I asked.

Briar nodded. “I hope that’s okay. I should’ve asked for your permission first.” A blush darkened his pale cheeks. “I just wanted to spare you any discomfort.”

“Thank you.” A warm pressure enclosed my sternum. They were so kind to me. “Can we go to bed now?”

The blanket fell open as I sat up straighter, and their gazes lowered to my exposed chest. It sent a delighted thrill through me. For whatever reason, both of these fine-ass men thought I was beautiful. And clumsy, adorable, and a bunch of other words I’d never used to describe myself.

Okay, maybe clumsy. I couldn’t deny that one.

“Yes,” Maddox answered. “Morning comes early for all of us.” He cleared his throat before rising from the rug and offering me a hand.

Briar did the same.
