“Andyou’repissing me off.” Irritation prickled in my voice. “I don’t want your fuck buddy taking care of me, okay? I’d rather—”
Bellamy grabbed my face and kissed me. Softly, his mouth slid against mine. I moaned deep and curled my fingers in his shirt. He tasted just how I remembered. Like rich bourbon with a hint of citrus.
He tasted like home.
“I haven’t fucked Clara,” he murmured against my lips. “She’s like a little sister to me.”
The bitterness poking at my chest eased. Jealousy was new for me. The emotion was one I’d only ever felt with the infuriating Nephilim in front of me.
“Also, she’s a lesbian,” he added. “But even if she wasn’t, I still wouldn’t have.”
“Oh yeah?” I eyed him suspiciously. “Not sure I believe you.”
He smoothed his thumb across my bottom lip. “You fucked me up, Nix. Knowing you were my mate made sex difficult. I still needed it, but getting it up for people was a challenge. So for the past few months, I’ve only fucked guys. And I bottomed for them.”
“You bottomed?” My cock twitched at the thought of his legs spread and me between them. A flush in his cheeks as I pushed inside his tight heat.
“Yep.”
I cleared my throat. “Did you like it?”
He smiled. “I prefer to top, but it was the only way to appease Lust. Why?” He brushed his lips over mine. “You wanna fuck me?”
A soft groan left me. “I’d miss that orgasm-triggering cum of yours filling my ass, but I can’t deny that the thought’s appealing.”
“You can’t do anything until that hole in your chest is healed.” Bellamy glided the tip of his nose along my jaw.
I shuddered as his warm breath tickled my neck. “What about the hole in yours?” I asked, a knot forming in my gut as I recalled how deeply I’d hurt him. “Can it be repaired?”
He stilled on top of me. “I don’t know yet.”
My chest squeezed, and I leaned my head against his. My voice would crack if I tried to respond.
“Get some rest.” Bellamy stood from the bed and faced the doorway. “I’ll check on you later.”
As he started to leave the room, my heart lurched up into my throat.
“Bell.”
He stopped walking.
“I…” I swallowed hard. “I know I can’t change what happened. But I’m not giving up on you. I’ll earn your trust again. I don’t care how long it takes.”
He stood silently in place for a moment before leaving the room.
My eyes stung as I closed them. There was a shake in my throat and a heaviness in my heart.
Love. It truly was such a dumb emotion.
Chapter Sixteen
Bellamy
“Clara tells me he’ll make a full recovery,” Alastair said, holding a cup of once hot tea. It had gone cold now. He hadn’t taken a single sip. “That’s good.”
“Is it? I thought you of all people would want to see Phoenix gutted for what he did.”
“I told Phoenix to help you escape the underworld.” Alastair regarded me. “I’m confident he would’ve done so with or without Asa’s orders.”
