Phoenix
“Tell me what you know about Penemuel.” Bellamy stood in front of the cage with his toned arms crossed over his chest. His black V-neck shirt hugged his biceps in a way that made my mouth water, and the peek of his collarbone made my dick twitch. “Stop that.”
I grinned. “That power of yours is annoying.”
“Then why are you smiling?”
“I’m just remembering what you tasted like,” I said, rising from the mat on the floor and slowly approaching him. “Admit it. You liked fucking a demon.”
Bellamy’s breathing shifted, became a bit heavier. “You aren’t the first demon I’ve fucked.”
“And you weren’t my first Nephilim. Doesn’t change the fact that it was good.”
“Good?” He scoffed. “I was the best you’ve ever had.”
“I thought pride was Alastair’s thing.”
“That wasn’t my ego talking. It’s a fact. Now tell me about Penemuel.”
Sighing, I leaned against the glass barrier. “Why are you interested in him? He’s not even with Asa anymore.”
“Why not?”
“If I had to guess?” I thought for a moment. “He’s too soft. The violence of the battle in the celestial realm got to him. He disappeared right after it. Or so I’ve been told.”
“So he didn’t want to fight?” Bellamy asked.
I shrugged.
“What about his ability to corrupt humans?”
“A lot of those stories are exaggerated,” I answered. “Sure, he has that power, but Penemuel never corrupted anyone in the time I knew him. He hardly ever spoke during our meetings. All he did was sit quietly and jot down notes. Ideas for books mainly. Honestly, the dude’s kind of a nerd.”
“That’s… not what I expected.” Bellamy rubbed at his smooth jaw. While in the underworld, his stubble had grown out a bit, giving him a hot, scruffily look. I liked him clean-shaven too though. Fuck, I just likedhim. “You’re saying he might’ve left because he doesn’t agree with Asa anymore?”
“Maybe. Maybe not. This conversation is boring.” I sighed. “I’d much rather talk about how long you’ll last before wanting to be balls-deep in me again.”
“Careful, demon.” Bellamy stepped closer to the glass. My cage had overhead lights, so despite the dark basement, I could see him perfectly. I almost wished I couldn’t. “If you want to fuck again, I’ll fuck you so hard you’ll never be able to forget the feel of me inside you. I’ll ruin you for everyone else.”
You already have.
“Those are some big words. Get in this cage and back them up.”
Bellamy chuckled. “So you can find a way to escape? Nice try, Phoenix.” His hungry gaze raked over me, heating me from the inside out. “Why the hell did you have to come here?”
“Youbrought me here.”
“I meant to Echo Bay. Why come back? I’m not buying the whole ‘I wanted to see you’ shit.”
How frustrating that he fell for my lies, yet he refused to believe the truth. “You’d rather me be in the underworld with Asa?”
“No.” He lightly bumped the side of his fist against the glass. “It just pisses me off. You risked everything to save me. Now you’re in a cage.”
Shame weighed heavily on me. If he knew the truth—that Asa had told me to release him—how upset would he be? Furious, probably. Maybe even enough to actually kill me.
“You can always let meoutof the cage.”
The middle of his brow dipped as he frowned. “I want to trust you, Phoenix.”
