I dropped to one knee, then the other. He stood in front of me, red eyes pinned to my face. I averted my gaze to the floor. Waiting.

“Such a pretty face.” Asa threaded his fingers through my hair before gripping it tight. “A pretty mouth too. Your tongue, however, is defiant.”

“No disrespect was intended, my king. I only wished to offer my counsel.”

“You’ve always been self-serving, Phoenix. And you’ve failed me many times in the past. It seems you can’t do anything right.” His fingers tightened in my hair, causing my eyes to sting. “Dare question my orders in front of them again and I’ll cut that pretty tongue right out of your head. Do you understand?”

“Yes.”

“Enough talking. Put your mouth to use. Please me and I may forgive your spineless behavior.”

I unzipped his pants. Sex with him wasn’t unpleasant. I enjoyed it for the most part. No emotion. No complications. Just two people using each other for a sexual release. But there was no passion. No… anything, really.

I hadn’t felt anything in a long time.

Not since the day my soul reached out for a certain blond-haired Nephilim. One I could never have. One who was my sworn enemy.

And one I had no choice but to someday destroy.

Chapter Two

Bellamy

Sex. The sweet decadence of surrendering to carnal pleasure and giving yourself over to your deepest, darkest desires. A temptation like no other.

Lust fueled me, consumed me, and made me a prisoner in my own body. I could only fight the pull for so long before I, too, succumbed to my sin.

“Shit,” the guy between my legs breathed out. He rolled off me and tucked his softening cock back into his pants, zipping them. “That was the best sex I’ve ever had.”

“I know.” I stood from the couch and walked into the bathroom. We were in my private room in the back of Krave, the supernatural nightclub owned by Konnar, our friend and ally. There was a bed, a couch, and a small bathroom.

“Cocky much?” he called after me with a slight laugh.

I flipped on the faucet. “Being cocky has nothing to do with it.”

I wasn’t fluffing my ego. It was a fact. As the avatar of Lust, I was the ultimate lover. While fucking, I knew what the person wanted and how they wanted it. Their fantasies and desires filled my head. They wanted it hard? I took them hard. They wanted me to rock into them nice and slow? I did that too.

The guy on the couch, still trying to catch his breath, had wanted it tender at first but had soon fucked me harder. They usually always did. It felt too good for them.

His cum filled my ass, and I cleaned myself off as best as I could. I’d take a proper shower when I got home. I exited the bathroom and grabbed my discarded jeans while he sat there with a dopey grin on his face, still riding his high.

Fuck, what was his name? Austin. Yeah, that’s right. He was a werewolf who had just joined Bane’s pack about a month before. Probably no older than twenty-two. When I was in my twenties, Sparta had still been one of the most powerful armies in the ancient world.

Gods, I’m old.

“You can grab a beer before you go.” I nodded to the refrigerator across from the couch.

“Before I go?” Austin tugged on his shirt. “Kicking me out already, huh? I thought maybe we could get some dinner or something.”

“Look.” I turned to face him. He had big green eyes, brown hair, and a kind demeanor. I didn’t want to hurt him, but he needed to let go of whatever romantic notions he’d conjured up in the past hour of knowing me. “You were a good lay, but this was a onetime thing.”

My eyes changed color depending on who was looking at me—something I’d never understood when I was younger. Lust made people see what they desired most. Austin saw dark brown eyes when he looked at me. The same color of whoever he actually wanted. It had nothing to do with me.

“Why?”

“Because I don’t do relationships,” I answered. “I’m not the guy for you. Far from it. You’re adorable, though, and sweet. I’m sure you’ll have no trouble finding someone who will treat you right. But whatever you do, stay away from Taeden. He’s a sadistic asshole.”

Austin grinned and stood from the couch. “Thanks.”
