“Where’s Wrath?” Lazarus asked after the silence dragged on for about a minute. “My patience is wearing thin.”

“No need to get your feathers ruffled,” Galen said, entering the room. His wide, muscled chest glistened with sweat, and his jeans hung low on his hips, the front bulging in an enticing way.

Once upon a time, I had traced those V-muscles on his abdomen with my tongue. I had groaned as he’d pounded into me, hard and fast. Nothing sweet or gentle about it. Only pure lust. That was in the past though. Neither of us shared those feelings any longer.

Lazarus curled his nose. “I take it you and your mate are getting along well?”

Galen stared at him. Said nothing.

Everyone in the room knew exactly what Galen had been doing before joining us. And he didn’t give two fucks about it either.

“Would you like something to drink?” Alastair asked the angel. “I can make us some tea.”

“That won’t be necessary. I won’t be staying long.” Lazarus stood from the chair. Gray scooted closer to me and clutched onto my leg. The angel’s gaze fell to him. “Fear not, Sloth. I haven’t come to harm any of you.”

“So whyareyou here?” Daman asked, being blunt as always.

“It’s been two months since the son of Lucifer arose,” Lazarus said. “There’ve been no signs of him since then. Which tells me he’s still not at his full strength. Now is the opportune time to strike, yet we know nothing of his whereabouts. I spoke with Uriel, and we’ve come up with another plan.”

“What kind of plan?” Alastair asked.

“One that will rely solely on you and your fellow warriors. You see, if Asa’s mind is anything like his father’s, he will start by rallying allies to his cause. He has the support of demons, yes, but he’ll need more.”

“What do you want us to do?” Galen asked, sounding more irritable than usual. Being interrupted during his and Simon’s little fuckfest had soured his mood.

Hell, I’d be sour too.

“You seven are the most powerful of your kind.” Lazarus swept his gaze to each of us. “It’s why I chose you for a special force in my army. However, you aren’t the only Nephilim. There are thousands of others. It’s my belief that Asa will try to win their allegiance. Because it’s exactly what Lucifer would’ve done. I want you to reach them first. Convince them to fight for the right side.”

“Yeah?” I chimed in. “And what makes you think they’ll listen to us?”

I had met a few Nephilim over the years. It hadn’t exactly gone well. They’d been cast aside while my brothers and I werethe chosen ones. They looked down on us because of it. Hated us.

“You’ll make them listen. And pray Asa hasn’t gotten to them first.”

Lazarus took his leave shortly after that, exiting the study through the glass door that led to the small garden beyond the window. He spread his wings and shot up into the sky, fading from sight within seconds.

“Anyone know where the hell to even start with this bullshit request?” Daman asked.

“It’s not bullshit,” Alastair countered. “It’s smart. With a force of Nephilim on our side, we have a better chance at defeating Asa when the time comes.”

Bellamy stepped away from the bookshelf, hand sliding through his golden hair in a nervous tic. “And if Asa wins them over first, we’re fucked, right?”

“We’ll be at a disadvantage, yes.” Alastair sat in his desk chair and clasped his hands together in his lap. “One of the reasons angels tried to kill Nephilim in the past? Why some still want to kill us? Because we’re strong. They hate us because they fear us. If an army of Nephilim falls into Asa’s hands, we very well might lose this war.”

Silence followed his words.

Gray, no longer sleepy, peered up at me before looking at the others. Worry reflected in his eyes. “What are we gonna do?”

“You’ll be staying here where it’s safe because you’re still healing,” Alastair told him, being protective over the smaller male. We were all that way over Gray. Pride was no exception. “First things first, I need to learn the location of the other Nephilim. They don’t have the same connection that binds them together as we do, so they’ll more than likely be spread out all over the globe instead of in one place.”

“Can you find them?” Galen asked.

“Don’t be ridiculous. Of course I can.” He swiveled in his chair and faced his computer. “I do know of one large group. A male named Baxter is their leader. I’ll track him down first, and we’ll go from there.”

“So the plan is to go to Baxter’s group first?” Galen asked. “How many of us will go?”

“Gray will stay here. As will you and Simon. We can’t have a human tagging along, and I know you won’t leave him behind. I’ll tell you more when I know it. You’re all excused for now.”
