Is that why he left so quickly? He was worried he freaked me out?

Me:Don’t be sorry. I’m glad you told me. It shows that you trust me enough to say it, ya know? I like that.

I also liked the feel of his hand beneath mine.

But I get the feeling he isn’t ready to talk about that yet.

Shiloh:Is it weird being the son of a cop?

Me:Yes lol well, maybe not weird. It’s more a pain in the ass. For the longest time, people at school didn’t want to hang out with me at parties or anything bcuz they thought I’d narc on them to my dad. But then they saw how amazing I am and changed their minds.

Shiloh:You’re so modest, Alex.

I laugh.

Me:Always :p you wanna hang out tomorrow? I have to be at work at 4, but we can hang before that.

Shiloh:I work 3-11 tomorrow. But I’m off Saturday.

Me:I work 12-close on Saturday dammit lol Hmm. If you’re feeling up to it, you should stop by the theater Saturday. I can get you in for a free movie or something.

Shiloh:Maybe. I’ll think about it.

Me:Think about the awesome buttery popcorn I’ll give you too. We’re not supposed to do that but I can sneak ya some in a small bag.

Shiloh:Fine lol I’ll come

Me:It’s a date then ;)

Shit. I sent the text without thinking. The last thing I want is to scare him off, but I can’t help but think he’s not as straight as I think he is. The way he brushed his fingers to mine. How he got so nervous, his breaths quickening.

Is he questioning? Curious?

His response comes five minutes later.

Shiloh:If it’s a date, should I bring you flowers?

He then sends two flower emojis: a rose and some type of pink one. Cherry blossom, maybe?

Me:Make it chocolate instead. I can’t eat flowers. I mean, I guess I COULD eat them. But I don’t want to. Bleck.

Shiloh:lmao noted

I watch an action movie on my laptop and fall asleep sometime after midnight.

I dream of a lake, the stars above it reflecting in the water. Shiloh’s with me. We don’t talk though. We just sit in the grass, our fingers linked between us, and exist together.

Chapter Eight

Shiloh

“This is a nice surprise,” Dad says, walking into the kitchen Saturday morning.

“You always make me breakfast.” I flip the eggs in the skillet so the other sides can cook. “I wanted to make you something for once. Have fun at the bar?”

Dad went out last night. Drinks with his “buddy” again. It’s become a Friday night thing.

“I did.” He walks over to the coffee machine and fills a mug. “You’re okay with me going out sometimes, right? I don’t have to.”
