“Part of me hates you, Monty.” That same hatred flared in his eyes, if only briefly.
“And the other part?”
Quinn held my gaze for several heartbeats, his eyes vulnerable and so fucking beautiful, then looked away. “I gotta go. See you at school on Monday.”
“Quinn, wait.”
But he kept walking.
“Goddammit,” I said under my breath, watching as he got into his silver Kia and drove away.
I felt so drawn to him, and after that conversation, I got the feeling he felt the same. Was that what he’d refused to say? That part of him liked me, wanted to get to know me better?
Never once in my entire life had I wished away the weekend. Only a psychopath would. But as I got in my truck and drove home, I looked forward to seeing him again.
Monday couldn’t come soon enough.
Chapter Four
Quinn
“Good morning,” I said, stopping beside Monty in the courtyard.
Every Monday, we would be on duty together before school started. Might as well try to make the most of it. My temporary ceasefire had nothing to do whatsoever with how gorgeous he looked in his snug-fitting red shirt, one that emphasized his powerful shoulders. Nope. I couldn’t care less.
He seemed shocked at first, then a smile spread across his face. “Morning. No coffee today?”
I studied him curiously. “Not gonna lie. It’s weird that you’ve picked up on my usual routine. Are you a stalker now?”
Monty laughed, resting his head back against the brick wall. “Nah. I’m just observant.”
I tried not to look at his neck and failed. The angle of his head gave me a nice view of his Adam’s apple, and my blood pressure spiked as I imagined nibbling him there.
“I was running late this morning,” I said, tearing my gaze from his neck and looking at a car that had pulled up to the drop-off zone. “I’ll make some in the teacher’s lounge, though. I can’t function without coffee.”
“Why were you running late?”
“Nosy much?”
“Always.”
“Couldn’t get out of bed,” I responded. He didn’t need to know the reason for that either, as I hadn’t exactly been alone. I had hooked up with a random guy I’d met on a dating site, and he had stayed the night. My alarm had gone off, and he’d pulled me back into bed for a morning quickie. Making me late, the bastard.
“Does that hickey have anything to do with that?” Monty asked.
“What?” I felt the color drain from my face as I self-consciously touched my neck. The guy had given me a goddamn hickey? I’d kill him. “Where?”
“Damn. I was only kidding.” Monty tossed me a smirk. “So, who’s the lucky girl?”
I detected a layer of… something… in his tone. His brown eyes darkened a fraction as I met his stare head-on. Holy shit. I recognized that look. It was the same one he’d given me while being balls-deep in Tyler’s ass. Was he aroused?
“Guy, actually,” I answered, wishing I had coffee. I needed it for sanity. Because there was no way in hell Montgomery Adams was attracted to me of all people. I had to be losing my mind.
“Oh yeah?” He leaned in closer.
“Yes.” Then I quickly added, “Not that it’s any concern of yours.”
“Is he a boyfriend?”
