“I told him to stay away from me. I don’t know what his deal is and why he moved all the way from Texas back to Washington, but if he thinks he can make amends by flashing charming smiles and giving half-assed apologies, he’s wrong.”
“You think his smile is charming?” Reed arched a brow.
“Shut up and eat your thirty-dollar steak.”
“Twenty-five, actually,” he corrected before cutting off another piece and taking a bite.
Reed had done great for himself. After college, he’d bounced around between a few decent-paying jobs before landing one as the administrative assistant for the VP of an advertising agency. He wasn’t one to brag about his finances, but he made good money. Enough so that he insisted on treating me to fancy meals on occasion and taking expensive trips during the summer. In June, we’d gone to Greece for two weeks. The crystal-blue water and sun had been a nice change from the gray skies and rain of Blue Harbor.
“So, I gotta ask.” Reed leaned forward on the table. “How does Monty look? Still hot? Or does he have a beer belly and a receding hairline?”
“I never knew you thought he was hot.”
Reed waved a hand dismissively. “He might’ve been a tool, but anyone with eyes could see he was hot as fuck.”
Funny enough, Reed and I’d come out around the same time. It had been sophomore year of college, and we’d been at a frat party. Some guy had come on to him, and soon after, the two of them were making out against the wall, groping and pulling at each other’s clothes. Turned out, he’d been afraid to tell me he was gay all through high school because he didn’t want to lose me as a friend. Then I told him about the incident with Monty and Tyler and pretty much confessed the same.
“Monty hasn’t changed much,” I finally answered. “He’s still muscled, arrogant, and irritating.”
“Tell me how you really feel, Beck.” Reed shot me a grin.
“Annoyed,” I said, tapping a finger on the tabletop. “That’s how I feel.”
He snorted and pushed his near-empty plate to the side for the waiter to take. “You’ll have to tell me how it goes tomorrow.”
“If I survive it.”
After lunch, I went home and made sure I had everything organized for school the next day. The first day of school usually consisted of an introduction to the course and explaining what I expected of the students for the semester. We wouldn’t dive into the actual learning until Tuesday, but I had lesson plans ready to go, along with their first assignment.
Sleep was difficult that night.
I closed my eyes and saw Monty smirking back at me. Saw him fucking Tyler. Then my fantasy took over, and it wasmehe was fucking against the lockers. And damn if I didn’t slide my hand down my stomach and slip it into my boxers, taking hold of my hardening cock. I brought myself to orgasm quickly and shuddered through it, releasing soft whimpers.
Shame slammed into me afterward, just like it had that day so many years ago. After cleaning up, I flipped to my side and punched my pillow to fluff it up. It wasn’t normal to jerk off to a guy who used to bully you.
What the hell was wrong with me?
It wasn’t like I didn’t get sex when I wanted it. I wasn’t on Reed’s level of whoredom, but a nice ass to push into was never too far away. So why did Monty have to turn me on so damn much?
Come morning, I’d be working with Monty five days a week for the whole school year. And what made my situation even morelovely? My history classroom was right next to the health classroom. So that meant I’d be running into Monty much more than I liked. I mean, let’s be honest: once was too many.
Sighing, I punched my pillow again and forced myself to stop thinking about him.
If all else failed, I could always throw him into a dumpster. The thought amused me way more than it should have. But it did the trick in getting me to stop obsessing about tomorrow.
My alarm went off at five thirty, and I started my day—brewing a pot of coffee, showering, getting dressed, then pouring the coffee into a tumbler and leaving for work. Throughout the week, teachers were scheduled to be on duty before school—which meant we supervised the students before the first bell rang. It was my turn that morning, so I had to be there earlier than usual.
Lo and behold, guess who also was scheduled to be on duty.
“Looks like we’re partners today,” Monty said after I walked across the mostly empty courtyard and joined him along the wall. He looked way too good for it being so early. The front of his short dark hair jutted up in a preppy style, and he wore a light jacket due to the chill in the morning air. And god, he smelled good.
I hated him.
“Great.” I took a drink, practically inhaling the coffee. It helped wake me up. If only it could do something about the pest in my ear.
“How long have you worked here?” he asked, lightly bouncing on his heels. Either to warm up or stay awake, I wasn’t sure. August in Washington State was beautiful weather, not too cold or hot, but the temperature that morning was cooler than average. A sign that it would only get colder from there.
“Four years,” I answered, watching as a car pulled up and dropped off two students, a boy and a girl. They walked toward a bench and sat down.
