Royal:The bitch gave you the wrong #

I barked out a laugh.

Me:Good to know lol But really. Are you ok? You’re back at work, right?

Royal:Yeah. Today was my first night back.

He sent the reply, and the dots appeared that signaled he was typing more.

Royal:I’m sure you can’t say much, but the FBI’s here because they think it’s the serial killer from last year?

Royal was a news anchor. Not exactly a reporter, but he got a say in the news stories he talked about each segment. What if I told him something crucial about the case and he used it as a ploy to get more viewers?

The FBI involvement wasn’t exactly a secret, though, so I felt comfortable telling him. I doubted he’d reveal facts of the case anyway, even if Ididtell him something confidential, and I felt guilty for thinking he’d fuck me over like that.

Me:Yeah…it’s fucking crazy. I’ll be glad when it’s over.

Royal didn’t text me back, but I saw that he’d read the message.

One day soon I’d need to meet with him again face to face. I didn’t want to go back to us not talking. Not after remembering how amazing it felt to be around him.

I only hoped he’d give me the chance.
