Mouths joined again and hands lightly skimmed flushed skin. Gentle bites made imprints on necks and two hearts beat as one. Slick with oil, I pushed inside his tight heat. He clawed my back and tilted his head, exposing his pale throat. I kissed him there, where his jaw met his neck, and I loved his soft sighs as I did.

Deeper I went, moving slow as to not hurt him. When his body no longer fought me, we moaned in unison.

I rocked into him, slow but hard. Pleasure rippled through me at having his cushioned heat hugging my cock. With each forward push of my hips, that pleasure intensified, like a fire building from a simmer to a blazing roar.

“Alek, do not stop,” he said on a gasp as I shifted my hips and sunk into him at a different angle.

Our chests slid together as I moved inside of him. He wrapped his arms around me and dug his pointed nails into the tops of my shoulders. It stung, but I reveled in that sting. I kissed his temple before moving to his ears. I’d not paid them much attention before, but the pointy tips called to me right then.

I licked along the edge of his ear, from the soft lobe and up to the tip.

Lorcan shuddered and arched his back, causing my cock to go deeper. “More.”

I’d known ears were sensitive, but his seemed to be even more so. Delighted at my new discovery, I sucked the point of his ear as I fucked him harder. Faster. As my cock pumped in and out of his heat, the bed shook.

The nymph whimpered and tensed. “Alek, please, more. Need—”

His words were cut off with a cry of pleasure, and his ass clenched around my cock. His seed shot onto his stomach with my next thrust, and his string of unintelligible mutterings as he came apart egged me on further.

I grabbed his hips, holding them in place as I drove myself faster into him. His eyes snapped open, and when they settled on me the green of them flashed brighter. When my release hit, I lost my rhythm and threw my head back with a deep groan.

I spilled into him as I climaxed so hard I nearly blacked out.

Afterward, I collapsed on him, both of us breathing heavily. His long fingers played with my hair. It was relaxing, and I closed my eyes, focusing on the feel of his hand.

“I love you, Alek,” he whispered.

I should’ve answered him. Should’ve said I loved him, too. But I’d learned in my life that my love brought ruin. Everything touched by my love was eventually destroyed.

“We should try to get more rest,” I responded, sliding out of him and rolling over to my back on the bed. I was uncertain of the time, but I suspected dawn was still a ways off. I draped an arm over his stomach before kissing his right pectoral. “Sleep, my nymph.”

Lorcan placed his arm on mine, but his eyes remained open, staring at the ceiling. His cheek glistened, as if wet. Maybe it was a trick of the light. He turned over, facing away from me, and said nothing more.

I love you,I wanted to say.

But I, too, said nothing.

“Quite a sight, isn’t it?” Troy put his arms behind his head and leaned against the tree.

After my lesson with Eva, Troy had asked if I wanted to accompany him on a walk. He rarely asked such things of me, so I’d agreed.

“It is,” I agreed, moving my gaze to the portal.

Soldiers passed through the glimmering barrier. They wore full armor and carried rounded shields and swords that varied in length. For days, they’d trained in the field on the outskirts of Avalontis, working on their land maneuvers. And now they were practicing their fighting in water.

Lorcan had said there was only one way in or out of the kingdom, and I was currently looking at it. When outside the barrier, the kingdom was invisible, looking like jagged rocks to any outsiders. Butinsidethe barrier, we could see everything passing by us.

Watching the army move into formation and begin their drills was remarkable. The water gave their movements fluidity that could not be achieved on land. With them knowing both forms of combat, they’d be a near unstoppable force.

Reif watched them, too. Occasionally, he’d cast a look around our surroundings, but he didn’t seem too on edge. Other than the tree that Troy leaned against, we were in the open with no places around us for anyone to hide. It’d be hard sneaking up on us from any angle. His dark eyes met mine and his jaw clenched.

With an inaudible sigh, I looked away.

Reif held a grudge against me for that day in the courtyard. While he no longer looked like he wanted to snap my neck in two, he remained wary of my presence. If our situations were reversed, I’d be the same. I couldn’t help but feel a minor sadness, however, at the loss of our previous relationship. Even while brooding, he’d never looked at me with the deep scowl he did now.

“How goes training with my sister?” Troy asked, stretching out his legs and crossing them at his ankles.
