Patrick chuckled and looked at Mom, who was sitting with her hands under her chin and looking like she was, indeed, plotting something.
“Enjoy being young for a while before settling down,” Patrick said and took a bite of his pork chop. “Don’t rush it. Life is all about experimenting while you’re young and discovering who you are.”
Mom glared at him. “Is that why you’re an old man who’s still never been married?”
“Yep,” he said with a smirk, putting an arm around her. “And it’s a good thing, too, because otherwise I wouldn’t have met you, darlin’.”
Mom then looked back at me. “Wait. Leo.” Her eyebrows shot up. “Your roommate,Leo?”
“Um.” I reached for my drink. “Maybe.”
“Well, that makes it convenient,” Patrick said, and I laughed, nearly spitting water.
We talked more over dinner. Of course, Mom wanted to know more about Leo, and I told her as much as I was comfortable with sharing. As I talked about him—how he was loud, messy, goofy, but sweet—my chest tingled. I didn’t just like him… Ireallyliked him. More than a friend and more than a crush. I knew him better now, both physically and emotionally. In the weeks since we’d started the friends-with-benefits thing, he hadn’t had sex with anyone else.
Maybe he felt the same about me.
Patrick then told some funny stories, making Mom laugh so hard she snorted. Seeing how they acted toward each other was the reassurance I needed to know Mom was really happy. Pictures could give the impression of one thing, but reality could be so much different. It was nice to see that wasn’t the case with them.
After we finished eating, I ordered Leo’s fries before hugging Mom and saying bye to them. Back in my car, I pulled out my phone, and with a shaking hand, I clicked to read the text.
Leo:Have a good time, Frosty. I’ll be here waiting for u <3
My eyes watered. I knew I shouldn’t let myself fall for him, but I didn’t have a choice in the matter.
I’d already fallen.

Waking up with Leo’s naked body tangled with mine had become my favorite part of the morning. Sometimes it was in his bed, sometimes in mine, but wherever we were, we were together. We hadn’t slept apart ever since our arrangement started.
Once I’d gotten home the night before, he’d eaten his fries as we watched some show on TV. He’d told me about his day, and I’d told him about my visit with Mom and Patrick. He’d also mentioned he was going to a Halloween party that weekend and asked if I’d go with him. I said I’d think about it.
Then, we’d been all over each other, kissing, touching, sucking.
He’d straddled my hips and rode me. I’d stared up at his sexy, muscled body, sliding my hands up and down his smooth chest and moaning as he took what he wanted. Once he’d come, I had flipped him to his back and pounded into him. It’d only taken a few thrusts in the new position for me to come, too.
I smiled at the memory.
Leo’s right arm was draped across my stomach while his left one was shoved under my pillow. He was the cutest big spoon ever. I turned to face him and kissed the tip of his nose. He crinkled it before snuggling more into his pillow. Pressing my face closer to his, I then ran my nose along his chiseled jaw before gently kissing him on the lips.
A soft sigh left him before he started snoring again.
Letting him sleep longer, I got out of bed, pulled on my pants, and went into the kitchen to start some coffee.
As I waited for it to brew, I contemplated whether I was going to the party that night. A bunch of people, loud music, and drinking in a house setting? Yeah, it reminded me a lot of Chase and the high school party. I’d been lucky not to have more dreams about that night, because what happened after we played pool had really messed me up.
It was why I’d been so guarded with Leo before finally letting him in, why I’d sworn off any other parties. Saying I was afraid was an understatement. People could be cruel, especially when you didn’t fit their definition of normal.
“Come with me upstairs,” Chase said, grabbing my hand and linking our fingers. I smiled down at our joined hands before looking back up at his dimpled grin. He leaned closer and brushed his lips across my earlobe before whispering, “I’ve never been with a guy before, and I want you to be my first.”
My pulse quickened, and my hands got a little sweaty. “I… I’ve never been with anyone. Like that.”
Chase stared into my eyes, biting down on his bottom lip. “We can be each other’s firsts then.”
“Okay,” I said as my stomached fluttered with excitement and nerves.
I shook my head to rid myself of that line of thinking and pinched the bridge of my nose. Goddammit. My heart thumped hard in my chest and my throat started tightening. Fucking panic attacks. Resting my hands on the kitchen counter, I closed my eyes and deeply inhaled, holding the breath for three seconds before exhaling.
