The absence of the mark made me feel like a new man. A better one. In the days following the lifting of the curse, I’d often caught myself checking my chest just to confirm it was truly gone, and that I hadn’t dreamed it.

On the morning of my thirtieth name day, I awoke to find Fletcher gone.

Panic immediately set in, and I feared that the curse hadn’t been lifted and I was in some kind of purgatory. That it had been a dream after all, and now I was stuck in a never-ending nightmare. But then the door opened, and my songbird entered the room holding a large platter with plates of food piled atop. He visibly struggled with the weight of it.

I jumped off the bed to take the tray from him, and he playfully snarled.

“The purpose of me serving you morning meal in bed is for you to actually beinthe bed, silly captain.”

“Well, unless you prefer to eat our meal off the floor, I ought to lend a hand.”

Fletcher had never been skilled in hiding his smiles, and he failed once again before he laughed. “Fair enough. Take this tray to our bed. I’m starving.”

Due to the winter storm, we’d decided to stay in Silver Falls longer than anticipated. The other men in the crew had been fine with it, though, and some even chose to go their separate ways. I’d let them.

Other pirate captains might’ve jailed or killed any man who broke contract early, but I was in good spirits, and we’d all suffered enough to last a lifetime. If they desired to leave and begin a new life, I refused to stand in their way.

Also, I had my own decision to make—one I hadn’t even shared with Fletcher yet.

I carried the tray to the bed and after we settled back under the blanket, we grabbed our plates and began eating.

“This was very kind of you,” I said after swallowing a mouthful of eggs.

“Itisyour name day after all,” Fletcher responded, bumping his shoulder against mine. “Don’t get any ideas about this being a regular occurrence.”

His sassiness was in full swing that morning, and I loved every bit of it. Just like I loved him.

I had wanted the first time I told him I loved him to be in a more romantic way, instead of how I’d confessed it to him on the cliff. But ever since that day, I’d told him countless more times, so I hoped it made up for lost time.

Light conversation was made as we ate, and once we were finished, I carried the tray to the small table near the foot of the bed. We’d stayed in that room in the Inn for so many days that I’d miss it when we left. It’d become familiar and I found I enjoyed waking up in the same place every morn.

“What do you wish to do this day?” Fletcher asked as he slipped out of bed and came over to wrap his arms around me from behind.

I turned in his arms and planted a kiss to his sweet lips. “I could think of a few things.”

We then spent the following two hours doing them.

The day I’d been dreading for over three years was upon me, and having my curse lifted was freeing in ways I could never describe. My elation at being alive and being in the embrace of the only man who’d ever captured my heart made me want to spend eternity buried inside his warmth. To kiss his lips every day and hear his pleasured sighs every night. To show him how much I loved him and to have his love in return.

I moved inside of him, adding a small roll to my hips with every given thrust.

Fletcher threw his head back on the pillow and stared up at me with half-lidded eyes, his mouth popping open in ecstasy. I gave him more, yearning to see him lose control and come apart beneath me.

Warmth gathered in my groin and a tingling spread down my back. I hung my head on his shoulder and increased my pace, hitting him in the place I knew would send him over the edge. He felt incredible, and the pleasure he gave me was not only physical but emotional.

My amount of past lovers was high in number, but none one of them had ever made me feel even a morsel of what Fletcher did. His smile alone was better than any orgasm I’d ever experienced from any other man.

Fletcher nuzzled his head to mine before lifting my face to his. He kissed me and started trailing kisses from my lips and down my neck. I arched my back as he traveled lower, enjoying whatever he was doing.

When he sucked the gold hoop in my nipple into his mouth, I gasped and fucked him harder. Deeper.

As he began to shudder, I did too, and both of us came so hard that I was sure our shouts of release could be heard all the way to the dock.

A calm followed as we worked to catch our breaths. I pulled him against me, nestling him against my chest, and rested my chin on the top of his head. His arm tightened around my stomach and he kissed the spot over my heart before settling in.

“I have something I wish to discuss,” I said, and the speed at which my pulse quickened had nothing to do with our lovemaking.

“Oh?” Fletcher stared up at me with the big, green eyes I adored. “As long as it can be discussed in this bed, with us naked and cuddling, I’m okay with it.”
