He looks confused. “Yeah. I can,” Dean replies.
I growl on a sigh, giving Dean a light shake of my head that no one else sees. I know Mollie is worried about what Matthew could do; his lie to tell people she had something to do with the death of a kid. But I see the feigned innocence in his eyes. See the way he stays mute with fear. He’s just as scared that she could do the same to him.
“Do as they say,” Mollie tells him.
His eyes don’t leave her face. “Or what, Mollie?” he says, wriggling to a stand.
Dean’s hands remain on him, and I take a step closer.
“You know what.” I hear the waver of her voice.
Matthew smiles like an arrogant arsehole. “Is this what you do now? Mollie the golden child turned biker whore.”
My fist is flying through the air before he knows what’s coming. He slumps like a sack of shit, and again, it’s the small hand on my arm, begging me to stop that halts me from breaking his fucking face.
“Yeah, that’s me,” Mollie fires at him, “the local biker whore. But I don’t want this.” She pulls me back but I don’t look at her. I hate that she conceded to his term for her. She’s no whore. “Please, do as they say and it’s done.” Their eyes lock, an understanding running between them. I fucking hate it.
“It’ll never be done.”
I hit him again. “She said it’ll be done. Which is more than you fucking deserve.”
He laughs, grimacing. “What did she tell you?”
I go to speak, but she cuts me off. “It doesn’t matter. What matters is that Iwon’tbe saying a word to anyone else, Matthew. And I meananyone. You agree to their terms, you’ll never hear from me again. My father will never know what you did and the world can go on pretending that the sun shines from your fucking arse.”
We all wait. “Fine.”
Mollie’s immediately leaving the room. I’m following closely behind, checking the hall as Dean catches up with Mop.
“Get her outside.” I turn around once I see the coast is clear.
“Where the fuck are you going?”
I don’t answer. Opening the door forcefully, a dishevelled Matt looks me up and down, realising it’s just me and him now. I take purposeful steps, watching as his eyes widen the closer I get. Grabbing his shoulders, my forehead smashes into his nose, shattering the stuck-up thing to smithereens, blood instantly exploding as he falls to the table on his back.
Seizing his collar, I drag his heavy body up, my fists balled tight. I watch his eyes roll a few times before I start speaking. “Youeverthreaten anyone I care about again…” I pull out my knife and drag it down the side of his face, making him scream a curdled cry. “I’m going to gut you, then feed you to the fucking pigs.”
Streaks of crimson draw down his face. His teeth are bared, his eyes scrunched closed.
“Do you understand?”
Matthew nods. Exhausted.
“Good. I’ll be in touch.” I shove him away and hotfoot it out the door. I see Mollie running to her car, Dean trudging behind her.
He signals to her and I know he’s telling her to go.
She does, pulling away fast as she can, the headlights illuminating the drive.
I make it to my bike and grab my helmet, then I follow in Mop and Dean’s wake, our trio tearing up the gravel behind Mollie’s car. Once we’re safely on the main roads, Dean goes up ahead, slowing next to the driver’s window. He gives her a nod, and I see her look back at me in the mirror.
In convoy, we’ve almost made it back to the clubhouse. Mollie hasn’t managed to tear her eyes from me, not even when she’s taken turns. At first, I assumed she was probably shaken from the events that just unfolded. But the longer I watch her behind the wheel, the more I can sense her fucking attitude. Call it intuition or whatever the fuck you want, but the longer we stare at each other, the more unimpressed she looks, and I’m feeling.
Taking the next turn, my suspicions are confirmed when she pulls the car to the right, blocking my path. I hit the brake, shaking my head, a devious smile breaking on my face. I shouldn’t be smiling, but if this is how she wants to play this. Then so be it. I shake my head, racing past her car.
She has to swerve so that she doesn’t hit me.
I pull up alongside Dean, motioning him closer.
