“So am I,” I say softly. “So am I.”
The bell over the door rings, and I take a deep breath. I really don’t want to deal with customers right now. My jaw drops as I see who walks in.
“Clark?” I say as Clark Kent walks in wearing dark Ray-Ban sunglasses.
Sebastian looks over at me with a questioning look in his eyes. “What did you say?”
I nod toward the man who is making his way toward us. “That’s Clark Kent.”
“Clark Kent? Wait—the man you were seeing?” he asks, surprised.
I nod. “Yeah. That’s the man I thought may have been Sergio when you first brought this mess to me. But now we both know he’s not.”
“Then what is he doing here?” Sebastian asks.
I shake my head. “I have absolutely no idea what’s going on or why he is here.”
Clark Kent makes his way toward us. I watch as he raises his sunglasses and bores his eyes into me. There’s a twistedsmile on his face. He’s wearing a dark, expensive suit, and looks different from how I remember. He appears to have money. He looks like he’s crazy and I swallow hard. How on earth did he find me? And why is he here? Is he a real life psychopath?
“Willow,” he says, staring at me.
“Hey,” I manage. “What are you doing here?”
“We need to talk.” He glances over at Sebastian. “And you’re Mr. Laurence, I presume?”
Chapter Thirty-Two
Sebastian
“I’m Sebastian Laurence. Who are you?” I frown at the man before us.
“I go by Clark Kent.” He darts his gaze over to Willow, and she’s still gawking as if she can’t believe what she’s seeing.
“Clark Kent, so what? You’re Superman?” I say through gritted teeth. This is the man Willow dated?
“No, my actual name is Benjamin Theodore Cornelius Montague III, and I own the Cornelius Insurance Company. You may have heard of it.”
I study him for a few moments as recognition hits me. The Cornelius Insurance Company. I nod. “Isn’t that a Fortune 500 company?”
“It is,” he says, smirking. “Who are you?”
“What do you mean, who am I?” I ask in an incredulous tone. “You came in and said my name.”
He chuckles. “True.” He turns his attention to Willow. “Hello, my dear. How is everything going?”
“What do you mean, how is everything going?” she hisses. “What the hell are you doing here?”
He frowns as if disappointed by her words. “That’s not the way to greet the love of your life.”
I stare at him in shock. Willow, though, is even more shocked than I am.
“What the hell are you talking about?” She practically screeches. “I don’t know what’s going on with you, Clark—I mean Benjamin.”
“You can call me Ben,” he cuts in, and she just shakes her head.
“But how do you know where I work?”
“Howdon’tyou remember? You told me one of many times when we were chatting on the phone.” He smiles at her. “I figure you’ve had enough time to process everything.”
