Grant nodded. “I agree, but she was at least brave enough to smack a grizzly. It’s in her blood to fight. All we have to do is tap into it and help her see her true potential.”

I couldn’t argue. A part of me didn’t want her anywhere near fighting. I didn’t want to see her get hurt again.

As Trinity’s laugh echoed through the trees, I felt my heart jump, and once again I found my feet moving toward her. I should’ve stopped myself, but my inner bear wanted to be near her, needed to feel her presence.

I wanted to fight it, but the pull was too strong. I gave in as Grant roared when he shifted back into his polar bear.

“I thought you were going hunting,” I growled when I approached Trinity and Cutter.

The latter was on his back, Trinity scratching his stomach as if he were nothing more than a giant dog. She turned, grinning widely, as Cutter glanced at me with his tongue lolling out of his mouth.

“Cutter.”

The smaller bear grunted and then rolled over to his feet as Trinity moved aside. He shook out the snow from his fur and then plopped his butt down, waiting for orders. I rolled my eyes at the younger shifter.

Cutter would never grow up. Some days, it drove me insane. Other days, his lightheartedness eased the tension and made me glad I’d chosen him as my second-in-command.

“We were just taking a break.” Trinity smirked. “I guess they felt I needed a little fun. Thank you.” She winked at Cutter.

My lips twitched. “I’m sorry about everything you found out this morning. I know it’s a fucking lot to digest.”

She blew out a breath, nodding, and then laughed darkly. “Yeah, finding out they tore your parents to shreds and you’re a Protector who’s also about to be torn to shreds… It’s a lot to process.”

“Trinity, I won’t let anything happen to you,” I promised. I fucking meant it.

“Promise nothing yet,” she whispered. She had an expression of intense thought on her face before she looked away, and then she eyed me again. “So are we hunting or what?”

“Hell yes.” I started stripping off my clothes, and my inner bear responded with a gigantic roar.

Trinity blinked. “Not exactly shy about showing all your junk, huh.” It was a statement, not a question.

“Nope. Nudity isn’t a big deal for shifters,” I replied with a smile. “But you can turn away or check me out. Either way, it’s all good, darling.” My muscles flexed when I was completely nude.

Trinity bit her bottom lip while her eyes roved down my body.

Stepping closer, I took her chin softly. “Like anything you see?”

Her eyes dilated. “Everything.”

I smelled the sweet scent of her aroused womanhood.

“Good.” I rubbed my thumb across her lips.

Her tongue flicked out, running over my finger. I shuddered. Soon, I’d get to taste her delicious nectar. Stepping back, I let the shift take over. My skin rippled, and my bones shifted and popped.

Trinity took a few steps back to watch, openmouthed, in awe as the monstrous grizzly appeared where I’d been standing just moments before. I licked my nose and then sniffed the surrounding air, throwing my head up to see what was near. My ears twitched around, and I growled for Cutter and Grant to get moving.

“I’ll never get used to that,” Trinity whispered before I gently nudged her with my head.

Our strange-looking group headed once more into the trees, and Trinity’s hand found its way into the fur at my shoulder. I felt warmth flood my body. Her touch, that one simple caress, made my bear growl contentedly,This is right. She is mine.

All my worries about what might happen with Price disappeared. Nothing mattered as long as Trinity stayed in my life. The realization hit me like a punch to the gut. I paused, paws sinking into the snow, as Cutter and Grant did the same in front of me.

Trinity glanced at the three of us. “What’s wrong?”

I couldn’t answer. I knew Grant and Cutter had heard the thought through our mental connection, and I waited to hear what they would say. To my surprise, neither uttered a word. They huffed at each other and then turned back around and continued.

“Fergus?”
