I sighed with relief. The last thing I wanted to see was a senseless, bloody war between the wolf-shifters and bear-shifters.

Fergus’s eye twitched, a sign I now recognized as his tic brought on by stress.

“Fergus? What’s wrong? Is it Taggert?”

“No. I debriefed him about Price and his pack, but I still have some business at the base.” His jaw tightened. “Logan’s still missing.”

“Damn.” My pulse raced.

Fergus had told me about Logan, his newest enforcer and member of his clan who’d gone missing during a surveillance mission on Price’s territory.

“What are you going to do?”

“I don’t know. I’m still working on a plan.” He exhaled.

“Is there ever a moment of peace with you shifters?” I asked.

“Only when I’m with you.”

He cupped my cheek, and my knees wobbled.

“At this moment, it’s all about us.”

“Good.” I leaned up on my toes and licked his neck.

“Trinity,” he groaned. “I promised to take you out for dinner when I got back.”

But he wasn’t stopping me from licking.

“I’m hungry… for you.”

“Trinity,” he hissed.

“Fergus,” I whispered. “I’ve been making wicked plans for my alpha. First, I’ll lick you in every indecent way possible. Then I’ll allow you to take me in every room on our damn ranch. I’m talking all weekend long, uninterrupted, hard-core fucking.” I pulled back from his neck and bit down on his bottom lip.

Damn, I can’t get enough of his taste.

He stretched up, tangling his hands in my hair at the back of my head. “I’m so down with that,” he grunted.

I sucked on his bottom lip.

He pulled back. “But remember the small clan dinner my aunt is planning? It’s this weekend.”

I laid my head on his shoulder. “Small and intimate are not in Kristine’s vocabulary.” I raised my head and stared at him. “And she’s been driving me crazy with this mating ceremony, which is turning out to be the equivalent of a star-studded wedding.”

He kissed my nose and then my cheeks, and he smiled. “You’ll be fine. You’ve met most of the clan, and they love you. The rest will, too. I promise.”

“They might not.” I chewed on my bottom lip. “I’m still a Protector, and I can’t shift.”

He scowled. “You have all the abilities of a shifter and the heart and courage of a bear-shifter, and that’s all that matters to me. Screw them if they can’t love you as much as I do.”

I took a deep breath, not verbalizing that it didn’t negate the fact that I still bore the Protector mark on my arm. “You know after this whole claiming ceremony, you’re going to be stuck with me.”

“I think it’s the other way around. You’re stuck with me. I’ve been told I can be a grumpy asshole occasionally.” He grabbed my hand, kissing the back. “Trinity, I don’t want to spend my life without you. You complete me. And I’ll destroy any man or beast to keep you by my side.”

A tear slid down my cheek. “Ditto,” I whispered.

He licked my lips, and immediately, I opened up for him. He brushed his tongue against mine. I moaned, the erotic sensation conjuring images in my mind of me flicking my tongue along the thick head of his throbbing cock.
