Her eyes narrowed, and she yanked her arm back. “Why?”
“Trinity… do you have any idea who your family was?”
She shook her head and threw her arms up in the air. “That’s it. I’m done. Leave me alone. I’ve had it with wolves and bears and whatever else is out there!” she screamed. “I know where I’m going, so just leave me the hell alone.” She rubbed her hands along her arms. “And give me my damn coat before I really get pissed and punch you in the throat.”
I walked back to the fire, got it, strode to her, and handed it over. “Trinity, Price won’t stop until they have you,” I said, trying to reason with her.
“Yeah, well, I’d like to see him try, because this chick isn’t going down easy. Now, leave me the fuck alone.”
I should have just tied her down. Then I wouldn’t have to worry about her, but I knew she’d hate me for it. I let her walk off, grumbling under her breath about shifters, wolves, bears, and who knew what else.
Cutter and Grant came back to my side a few moments later.
“That went well,” Cutter mused after he whistled. “I’m assuming you still want us to follow her.”
“Yes. I have a feeling she thinks she’s dreaming this right now,” I answered. “And Price will try to come for her tonight.”
“Something else bothering you?” Grant asked.
“There’s a mark on her arm. She was born with it.”
Cutter and Grant glanced at each other before the latter whispered, “The mark of a Protector?”
“Looked like it.”
I continued, “At least now we might know why Price wants her alive.” Most shifters hated Protectors.
“Well, let’s make sure we keep her that way.” Cutter slapped me on the back. “Wouldn’t want anything to happen to our alpha’s mate, would we?”
Grant cursed under his breath.
I turned and glared at Cutter. “My what?”
“Never mind. Let’s go,” Cutter told Grant with a wide grin before heading after Trinity.
“Damn fuckers,” I mumbled, standing rooted to the spot.
Was it that obvious—what I felt for Trinity? If she was my fated mate, I would have a hell of a fight coming my way, trying to convince her she belonged to me.
She didn’t even trust me right now, not that I could really blame her. I’d seen that look before on many humans’ faces. If they saw something like a shifter, their brains would just refuse to believe it was real. It was too far outside the norm. She wouldn’t believe it until she had nothing left to doubt.
Either way, it left me in a delicate position. Price would come after her tonight. We somehow needed to stop him without letting Trinity get hurt.
“Looks like she’s going to be bait after all,” I whispered. My bear clacked his teeth in protest. “I tried, dammit. Now shut the fuck up.” He slapped against my insides in retaliation. “You little fucker.” I winced in pain. “The only thing that will stop her is if I hog-tie her.” My bear grunted and stomped with approval. “Fuck no, I’m not tying her ass up.”
Even though it sounded very tempting. A vision of the dark beauty tied to my king-size bed, naked, with my tongue in her glistening slit flashed through my head before I shook it away.
No, Trinity was going to do what she wanted. She hadn’t needed anyone her whole life. She wasn’t about to start now.
Chapter 15
Trinity
“Fergus, the asshole bear,”I babbled angrily under my breath as I stumbled through the snow.
There was no damn denying that he was gorgeous and ripped. I couldn’t get the vision out of my head of the way his T-shirt had clung to his broad shoulders and his wickedly defined upper body. Primal lust gripped me with such intensity it almost hurt.
Shit.Under different circumstances, I would have climbed Fergus’s ass like a fucking tree and dry humped him into submission.
