Price knew this was my territory. Every shifter sensed where another’s territory was.

So why did he risk his pack members’ lives by bringing it here?

Chapter 9

Grant

I lay downin the snowdrift, close to where the wolf pack had stopped to eat, and I listened to their conversations.

Mostly, they were talking about Trinity and finding her before nightfall. They looked a bit nervous as they kept glancing at Price and flinching. Their alpha must have threatened them.

I would have to let Fergus know things had escalated quickly. We’d only have until nightfall now to get Trinity somewhere safe.

I focused on Price. He stepped away from the group with a satellite phone in hand. I needed to get closer to hear. Carefully, I crawled through the snow. It covered my scent mostly, but then, this entire area was covered in bear smells. It was our home, our territory, and the wolves were trespassing.

I stopped moving forward when I could pick up on what Price was saying. He kept clenching his left fist and gritting his teeth.

Who could anger him this much?

“I understand, but we’ve had complications. Yes. Yes, I know. We’re doing our best, but we followed tradition. We had to release her and hunt her down like the others. Of course I know that, you idiot.” Price blanched and immediately stared down at his feet. “I’m sorry, sir. Yes, my temper. I apologize. We will have the female soon, and then you can do what you will with her. How are the other plans progressing?”

I listened intently to the rest of the conversation while part of my mind tried to get a grip on what I’d heard. This wasn’t a normal Hunt. They would not kill Trinity here. They’re going to take her, but where?

“The bears have been around, yes, but they’re just watching. They act like they don’t want to be the ones to start it, but don’t worry. There will be a war. I can promise you that.”

Shit.

So Price wanted to start a war, which meant we would have to do everything we could to stop it.

We couldn’t let them kill or take Trinity from our territory. And if we took out Price, we would have to do it quietly and kill the rest of them too. This simple mission had just gotten a hell of a lot more complicated.

I waited until Price hung up before I slowly backed my way into the trees. Then I turned and ran to find Fergus and alert him to Price’s plan.

Chapter 10

Trinity

My head felt fuzzy.I shivered in my coat as sweat dripped from my forehead. Something was wrong, but I was too exhausted to realize what it was.

My vision kept blurring, and as I stumbled through the snowdrifts, each step felt heavier than the last. I wasn’t sure I was going to make it anymore.

Something large moved to my right, and I came to a shaky halt.

“I know you’re there. I can see you,” I hissed.

I did not know what was out there, but acting like I did felt better than letting the thing continue to stalk me. It wasn’t Price. If it were, he would’ve come out already to taunt me or kill me—or both. I knew when Price and his pack did finally catch me, my death wouldn’t be swift. I’d be like that elk, eaten bit by bit as they watched me writhe in agony.

“Stop it,” I scolded myself. “That’s not helping. Stay positive and strong, remember? You want to get back home and find a man, someone who’s not an asshole and who will love you. He’ll overlook you not knowing shit about being normal, and he’ll be hung like a fucking horse because you haven’t been fucked in months.” I continued to mutter to myself.

Then I laughed when I realized I sounded like a raving lunatic.

Shit. Maybe I am crazy.

How could I not go a little insane after everything I’ve seen?

“I’m not crazy, just tired and fucking starving,” I added when my stomach growled.

I stopped and took a deep breath to steady myself, but all it did was give my stomach a chance to growl even louder.
