It was hard to declare yourself alive after being dead for two years.

We thought about sticking to our new identities, but I enjoyed being Amari and Caden. And, since dropping the McCoy, Amari Davidson had a nice ring to it.

The official story was a self-imposed witness protection for fear of revenge from the Sinezilio Cartel. A cartel who all ended up dead at a family wedding a few weeks ago.

Funny how that worked.

Unfortunately, the GulfStream couldn’t make it all the way to Australia. We settled on Michigan instead. We purchased a piece of land on the water near Traverse City.

It was the best of both worlds. Our little beach oasis along with our winter cabin all rolled into one.

An airstream trailer was home for the first six months. Caden and local contractors built our house in record time. It was livable by the time winter hit. We had more work to do, but it was home.

I never asked Caden about the folder he gave my father. People should be able to keep their own secrets. It changed nothing. My heart forgave my father, but my head wouldn’t forget. I meant what I said. I needed nothing from him. I had everything I needed right here.

Caden and I were in our own world. We loved it.It was normal.

The wind had picked up and howled between the trees. Caden was out in the cold to gather more wood for the upcoming storm.

I was no longer scared of shadows and things waiting to get us. Caden relaxed too. He outfitted our little piece of the world with the latest in security. Other than an occasional twitch, his spidey sense was dormant.

A stomping noise vibrated against the floorboard. I ran to the door and pulled it open.

I leaped off the porch and jumped into his arms, kissing his chilled skin.

“Amari,” He held me in one arm while attempting to wrap me in his coat. “It’s ten degrees out here. You’re going to get frostbite.”

My leggings and the tank top were all I needed inside of the house. Caden kept it warm. Any clothes were too many. It was like living on the equator all over again.

“You’ll warm me up.” I clung to him. He climbed the steps, stomped the snow off his boots. The cool air took my breath away. Or maybe it was the mountain of a man holding me in his arms.

“I missed you.” I ran my cheek along his stubble.

He stepped inside and shut the cold out.

“I missed you, too.” He chuckled. He made a beeline for the fireplace. He stood with his ass practically in the fire. “Snow’s coming down.”

I slid down his front and placed my feet on the floor.

“We snowed in?”

“I think so.” He grinned and stripped off more clothes.

I watched as he got down to his thermal pants and nothing else. The pants hid nothing. He rubbed the outline of his cock and my insides flipped.

I stood with my hands on his hips.

“Oh, no.” I ran my hand down the front of his pants and pulled out my fake damsel in distress accent. “Are we okay?”

“No worries, little princess, today, we’re okay.” He smirked and licked his lips before placing his mouth to mine.

The End
