“You remember when we saw this movie?” He straightened the poster frame. The guy in the poster stood with his arms crossed, the muscles popping on his forearm. The good and evil expression on his face reminded me of Caden.
“Yeah.” I turned on my heels and look up at him. “I remember. You were much nicer to me back then.”
I stepped around him and towards the door.
Caden grabbed my arm and pulled me back. I collided with his bare chest. I pulled away, but his words stilled me.
“I don’t hate you.” He pushed my hair away from my face and ran his thumb down the center of my forehead, over the tip of my nose. He took his time, tracing the shape of my face like he had a right to touch me. Like I belonged to him.
Well, I didn’t.
I pulled his hand away from my face and pushed him backward.
He gripped the towel to keep it from falling.
I took my opportunity to escape. I reached the door and stepped out into the frozen night.
I shivered and hugged myself.
I half expected him to follow me, but I knew he wouldn’t.
I grabbed the wet blanket off the steps, shook it out, and threw it over my shoulder and took off up the stairs and down the path towards my house.
A howl carried across the wind, and I walked faster.
“Mari.” The howl turned into my name.
I abandoned the path and stomped through the woods. I needed to get back to my house, to safety.Able to shut him out. Leave him out in the cold, alone. Hating him was easier behind a closed door.
“Amari, stop.” The anger in his voice scared me.
I wasn’t about to stop and wait for him.
The lights of my cabin appeared in the distance, but in the wrong direction.
“Shit.” I lifted my foot and took a step in the right direction. My foot never landed back on the ground. My face did, though.
I face-planted into two feet of snow as something hit me across my back. It knocked the wind out of me. I gripped at the ground and scrambled to get away.
Once my lungs filled with air, I took a painful sharp breath and scrambled to get back on my feet. A weight pressed me into the bitter snow. I kicked and punched, arm and legs flailingto get whatever it was off of me.
I screamed and growled as my fist connected with flesh.
I was no match for him. He grabbed my hands.
“Will you stop fighting me?” He slammed my hands into the snow over my head. He was naked from the waist up.
Oh, hell no.
I lifted my knee and grazed his dick. He flinched and protected himself.
I flipped over onto my stomach andcrawled out from under him.
He grabbed my ankles and pulled me back to him.
He pushed me onto my back and grabbed both my wrists. He pinched them together.
He grunted in my face.
