They both sat up.

“Mommy.” Cason takes off and pulls himself onto my bed.

“Easy.” I said. The pain dulled by the joy of seeing my son okay.

He stopped his charge and carefully climbed up the bed and laid his head on my chest. I lifted my arms and wrapped them around him and held him to me.

I smelled his hair. I felt his little heart beat thumping against my chest.

“I missed you.” I kissed his head and held him close.

“Mommy.” Cason whispered. “Did you know Mase is my dad?”

My eyes grew wide.

Mase looked at me. Moisture pooled in his eyes.

“Who told you that?” I let him go.

He sat up next to me.

“The scary guy who said he was my grandpa.”

The mention of Papa Scott made my skin crawl.

“Yeah.” I caught Mase’s gaze. “Mase is your father.”

“That’s cool, but that grandpa guy? No thank you.” Cason shook his head.

“I agree.” I blinked back tears and pulled him close to me.

“Hey.” Mase stood up and walked to the side of the bed. “Cason, why don’t you go find nurse Jenny?”

“The cute one?”

I narrowed my eyes.

“Tell her your mom is up. Okay?”

Cason nodded.

I let him go.

Mase lifted him off the bed and sat him on the ground. He took off for the door.

I sat up to protest. I wasn’t ready to let him out of my sight.

“It’s okay.” Mase took my hand. “There’s about ten Guardians and Lady Guardians outside standing guard.”

I squeezed Mase’s hand.

He leaned over and kissed my forehead.

“Is he okay?” I couldn’t stop the tears now if I tried.

“Oh, hey.” Mase sat on the bed next to me and leaned over and kissed my cheek. “He’s fine. He was with Greta the whole time. She had no clue what was going on, and was told just to take care of him and she did.”

“Oh, thank God.” I reached for Mase.
