“It’s a lot to take in.” His face softened.

“I didn’t invite you here, into my life.” I touched my neck. The bruise had faded. As far as I knew, Dana hadn’t told anyone, but she kept her eye on me as much as she could.

I reached into my pocket remembering the promise I made to Dana if he showed back up.

I even typed out the text.

“Gracie.” He motioned with his hand. “I want in, but I don’t know how.”

I put my phone away and looked at him.

His hair had grown out a bit. He looked like shit in asexy scary biker dudekind of way.

He leaned his head back and closed his eyes.

“It’s late.”

He nodded.

“Why don’t you get some sleep? We can talk more in the morning.”

He sunk further into the couch.

I stood and grabbed a blanket from the back of the chair. I walked over to him and laid it across his lap. As I stood up, he grabbed my hand.

My instinct didn’t kick in and pull away, which concerned me. When he brought my hand to his lips and kissed it, my heart melted, which concerned me more.

He let go.

I learned over and kissed his cheek. The warmth of him felt good against my lips.

I stood, and looked down at him.

The love of my life, my father’s son, here in my home.

My heart burst, I ran out of the room before I said or did something stupid.
