“He’s good.” I turned toward him. “He asked about you. Wanted to know if you were going to sleep on our couch from now on.”

“I prefer Mommy’s bed.”

I felt my cheeks getting hot.

“I love making you blush.” He winked and grinned.

“I can’t help how my body reacts.” I lowered my eyes and took a sip of water. “You know you’re the only one, ever.”

He narrowed his eyes.

“Why?”

“You ruined me for other guys.” I said with a sarcastic grin.

“Why?” He wrapped his hand around my thigh and pulled me toward him.

“I don’t know.” I shrugged. “I guess it felt disrespectful to you in some way. Like the stuff I did, keeping Cason from you, plotting revenge on the people who hurt me took up a lot of my time. I never gave dating much thought.”

“I didn’t expect you to live like a nun.”

“Well don’t get me wrong.” I leaned my head back on the booth. “I tried, but it never felt right.”

He nodded and laid a peck on my lips.

“For me, too.”

“I’m sure you tried harder than me.” I ran my hand down his cheek.

“Well, I am a man.” He smirked. “As you know, I enjoy my little fuckfest lifestyle.”

“Yeah, I remember.” I tried to keep the pout off my face. Every time he took another girl up to his room or made out with a girl in front of me, I died inside.

“Hey, you are still my only girl.” He lifted my chin to meet his eyes. “The women I was with, they knew it too. Why do you think they were always so pissed off at me?”

“I thought it was because you were bad in bed.” I said and kept a dead straight face before cracking up.

Another challenge had been laid down.

Mase gladly accepted with a smirk and a nod.

We ate and talked. The steak flavors seemed more savory and the vegetables burst to life on my tongue. The lobster macaroni and cheese was the cheesiest mac and cheese I had ever tasted. To top the meal off, they served it with butter topped Parker House rolls with a sprinkle of sea salt.

I groaned sex noises throughout the entire meal.

Mase grinned and asked questions about Cason and about the last four years of my life. I explained to him how Justice brought me to Jersey City to the Lady Guardian Chapter to have Cason. I told him about Josey, Dana, and James.

He asked about Anna, the leader of my chapter, and how they took over protecting me when he couldn't.

“Enough about me.” I wiped my mouth with a napkin and sat it on my lap. “What’s been going on with you over the last four years?”

He shrugged and his expression changed to one of seriousness and sadness. His hand retuned to my thigh. I placed mine over his.

“There’s not much to tell.”

“I’m sorry.” My heart hurt for him. He had been existing on a diet of revenge. My news blew his whole reason for living out the water.
