“What’s the plan?” Anna leaned back. “Are y’all together?”

“It’s more complicated than that.”

“I know. That’s why we’re here. We want to make sure you’re thinking about this the right way.” Olivia said.

“You have to do what’s best for you and your son.” Anna looked off. “I will admit, I don’t know these people, but from what I know of the Dragons President, he is a first grade narcissistic asshole and his son—”

“Mase is nothing like his father.” I leaned in, but slumped back when I saw the look on Olivia’s face. I was close to crossing the line.

“Regardless, he’s the second in command of a gang with a split personality. They want to do good while being bad and that always ends up messy.”

“Don’t worry about it.” I hugged myself. “I won’t drag the club into my shit.”

Anna closed her mouth. The usual smile, gone. She uncrossed her legs and stood up.

Was the meeting over?

“This club,” she pointed in my face. “Your club agreed to take on your shit the moment you joined. You of all people should know what that means and what we do for our own and for people who need our help. I’m not saying you are doing anything wrong; I’m here to tell you that you don’t have to go at it alone. You don’t have to take on the whole SouthEast Dragons by yourself.”

“We’re family, remember?” Olivia nodded.

“I know.” I wiped the tears from underneath my eyes. “I’m just scared.” I looked at the ground. “I don’t want anyone getting hurt because of me.”

“Tell me what you have planned?” Anna asked.

“I can’t.” I shook my head. “I don’t know what I want to do. Part of me wants to make sure Papa Scott pays for what he did, but the other part of me thinks it’s stupid. I mean… its club business. I love the fact you all would go to war for me and with me, but am I being selfish to ask when there is an alternative?”

“What alternative?”

“I can leave, just go —” I shrugged.

“Fuck that option.” Olivia yelled.

I cowered back.

“Olive,” Anna stood.

“No. You don’t get to bail. That’s not what we do. We stick it out and fix it, fight if we have to, but you’re not bailing on us.” Olivia got in my face. “Stick. You’re a Lady Guardian. You are down for your club as much as anyone. You’re our future, so we are going to need you to stop being a pussy, and let’s figure out how to fix it.”

She walked backwards toward the door.

I nodded.

She nodded back before disappearing.

Anna walked up to me and leaned against the workbench.

I faced her.

“I know you want to redeem yourself, but think about what that will look like in the end.” She leaned in and hugged me.

“You going to tell Justice on me?” I hugged her back.

“If she wasn’t on trial, she was going to ride up here and talk some sense into you herself.” Anna grabbed my arms and leaned back. “She cares about you, we all do. I know what you want. Is it what Mase wants? Is he ready to give it all up?”

“He never wanted it in the first place.”

“The world is a whole lot different than it was four years ago.” She nodded, kissed my cheek, and let me go. “Just be careful.”
