“What were you thinking so hard about?” She whined.
I picked her up and moved her out of the way.
“Mase.” She pleaded.
“Grace.” I headed down the hall. I found my cut draped over the back of the couch. I pulled it on, checked my pockets.
“Mess.”
My eyes drew together. I stalked towards her.
She backed up against the wall.
I trapped her between my outstretched arms. I breathed her in. I stalled for a moment trying to find a good answer, a better answer.
“What is it?” she flattened her hands on my chest.
“This isn’t going to end well.” I went with the truth.
“Why?” She slid her hands down to my hips. “We can take him down and save ourselves.”
I shook my head. I ran my thumb down her nose and over her lips.
She kissed it.
“If we did go after him, it is either him or us.” I leaned in, stared her in the eyes. “You understand that right? There’s no middle ground. He will take us out unless we take him out first. There’s no negotiating. He’s not going to prison. He will die or we will, that’s the way this ends.”
“We aren’t alone Mase.” She laid her head on my chest. “Don’t you get it? We have an entire army.”
“So does he.”
“But, our army is on the side of right.” She leaned up. “The right side always wins.”
I scanned her face, wondered if she was naive or incredibility optimistic.
“You not going after him alone.” She narrowed her eyes.
“I’m not going after him at all, not right now anyway. I need to know more.” I pulled away.
Grace held me tighter.
She finally let me go.
I took her hand and walked outside.
She stood next to me while I climbed on my bike and secured my helmet.
“I miss riding with you.” She said softly. The girl I knew finally made an appearance.
“Bad ass Gracie has her own bike, now.” I pinched her chin. “You still want to ride on the back of mine?”
“You can ride on the back of mine.” She grinned.
“That’s cool.” I pulled her to me and squeezed her ass. “Means my hand will be free.”
She bit her lip and grinned.
“Still blushing after everything we’ve done to each other.” I kissed her deep with as much strength and passion I could muster. I wanted her to remember what was at risk. I pulled back.
“I know your crew will protect you, but if anything happens to me, you need to go. I’ll have an escape plan, I’ll fill you in on it once I have everything all arranged, but you have to promise me you won’t hesitate. At the first sign of trouble you’ll grab Cason and run?”
She opened her mouth.
“Promise me.”
“I promise.” She nodded.
I didn’t believe her, but I held on to the hope she hadn’t lost all her senses while plotting revenge.
I of all people knew how the path to revenge could consume you.
